Diggs was bad this year but the other corners have been worse. Revel ranked dead last in PFF rankings of all corners. Bland was not himself and Caleb Carson and Reddy were meh. Clearly, this was likely to avoid a guarantee for next year based on an injury. They obviously did not trust him.

Exactly. Diggs was flat out horrible this season but was still one of our better CBs which is just a crazy indictment on the talent on this team. This is 100% about money and about the play in the field not matching the cap hit. Diggs was gone the day the team started negotiating with Bland. Anyone who didn’t realize that wasn’t paying attention.

Both $20M CBs were crap and being better than Diggs doesn’t mean Bland was good and every other corner as well including the rookie who was supposed to be our future were crap. Good news for Revel is he had no camp and was coming off injury so for him it was just about getting reps for a young kid and we won’t know for another year if he seems legit or not. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong. This is as much an indictment on our coaches and our roster building as the players. Does anyone really think every single cover guy on the team all of a sudden became horrible? This team still has a mountain to overcome and still needs to learn who to spend their money on and who not to. Luckily they finally realized Diggs wasn’t worth his salary and if it took Jerry not liking him to cut him, who cares, as long as we freed up his cap space to spend elsewhere. It’s been a 2 or 3 year plan since before the season started and this was an expected and necessary move to get there.

But nothing will change on this team until the coaches step up. The defense wasn’t historically bad because of Diggs so nothing will magically happen by cutting him. They still play all the wrong guys as if watching tape is not allowed in Dallas. It starts with getting better players and then just as important better coaching. A lot of change is still needed. The core is building blocks seem to be in place. Let’s hope they don’t screw it up.

Sports accountability is a team thing best kept in house unless you are balling out on the field. Bad defense is a WE thing. (coaching & players) It's much worse when your new coach has stood on team culture since day one and "the player" brings scheme up as the issue while playing at a rate of zero passes defensed through 8 games for a CB making serious cash.

Adios...hope you land with Quinn and we play you twice next year.

It's hard to feel bad for some guys when they unravel. Nothing worse than the "you aren't an NFL player so you don't know what you are talking about" attitude. Even us lame, sitting on the couch ex-DIII or HS players know how bad you were...

The idea that this team in any way has a football first mentality and cares about winning has been disproven over and over and over. Punishing CeeDee by making him miss only 3 plays after vomiting on a casino floor because he was drunk the morning of a game is comical. What other team would allow that? They pick and choose who they like. The team culture is as shitty as it was since the day Jimmy walked out and Jerry took control. We coddle, we makes excuses and we allow players to do whatever they want as long as we like them.

This is true. The franchise will let things slide as long as the plAyer is playing at a high level. We have seen them release several players over the years that got their bag and then did not play at the same level they were before. Or Jerry gets mad and holds a grudge. I am not mad about diggs getting waived.

I like the move to waive Diggs. Maybe the players will take notice. High profile player getting paid 500k a game to get nothing good done on the field and gets cut.. he can forget about getting another big payday.

. The way I look at it is those injuries have slowed Diggs down enough he can no longer make big plays on the field. The attitude is also a cancer to the locker room. The film showed a player that got lazy and lost a step. So goodbye Diggs.

Not surprised at all.
Everything depends on his health, but even without Micah, GB is a team that gets pressure quickly...like Dallas did earlier in Diggs career. If he stays there next season, once Parsons is back, I think he will be back towards the league leaders in interceptions and playing in the Pro Bowl.

Looks like they actually picked up the existing contract, so he will be there next year...

Wow that was quick. I guess they wouldn't give up a late pick for him. Usually if someone jumps on a player that quickly they might have. We of course probably didn't even try or as usual made it so obvious we were going to cut the player that other teams knew there was no reason to give anything up for him.

Absolutely. ALL players should be treated like this. When their play is far below their cap hit you need to move on. This was 100% a cap move and Jerry not liking the player just made it easier to do it now instead of in the offseason. There was zero chance Diggs was here next season

My opinion, right or wrong, is that Diggs and Bland didn't suddenly forget how to play football. I think they may both be a little banged up, but I think the bigger problem for both guys, is that their entire career here, the ball had to come out in 2.5 seconds or the QB was sacked, so they were able to cover a certain way and jump a lot of routes for picks. They can't cover guys for 4-5 seconds(and neither can anyone else), so man to man didn't work this year, and the coaches obviously did a horrible job of teaching communication in zone coverage, because we had more busted zones this year than I saw the last 10 years combined. So while the time for Diggs may have come here, if he gets in the right situation, he will be back to a high level next season

Thanks for this. I came to this thread to ask the question what happened to this guy? I had always assumed he got all those picks early in his career by jumping routes and teams figured that out. But the lack of a pass rush would do that too.

Someone will take a chance on a player with this much upside. But it sounds dangerous, he hasn't been good for a few seasons now.
