Poona Ford probably isn't going to be batting down a bunch of passes, but for as much as we hear about "low man wins" it seems his stature shouldn't be prohibitive to him being an effective player in the trenches.

but allstar might be a stretch

Sure, which is why I put 'ceiling' in my post. Guy is just a player. Which is something that J+P are good at finding. Guys whose measurables are off (Poona's is height), but who can just PLAY. If Ford is a 10 year rotational D-lineman that's awesome, because he was an undrafted signee.

But your floor was a solid player and your cieling allstar. Doesn't leave much room to be wrong unless he just becomes roster fodder :P lol i am just teasing you. I am Excited to see him play against some talent. With a Name like Ford i can see all kinds of nicknames for him. Would be fun lol.

So anyone surprised by any of the cuts? By position, here's who we have:

QB (2): Russell, Hundley. No real surprise here once the trade happened, though I would have been ok with McGough as the backup; will be shocked if he survives the practice squad.

RB (6): Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny, C.J. Prosise, Mike Davis, J.D. McKissic, Tre Madden. All chalk picks I think, though maybe I figured a better chance for 5 RBs & 6 WRs, but I guess with Penny nursing a finger it makes sense to hold onto Davis a little longer.

WR (5): Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett, Brandon Marshall, Jaron Brown, David Moore. As stated above, my only mild surprise is no 6th WR. No beef with the 5 they kept. It was a really tough position group to break into this year.

TE (3): Nick Vannett, Will Dissly, Darrell Daniels. Ed Dickson is staying on the NFI list, but hopefully he comes back soon. I know nothing about Daniels.

OL (9): Duane Brown, Ethan Pocic, Justin Britt, D.J. Fluker, Germain Ifedi, George Fant, J.R. Sweezy, Rees Odhiambo, Joey Hunt. Surprising that Hunt made it above both Battle and Roos, but I guess this means they're sold on him as the bu center instead of Pocic. Sweezy didn't do much in pre-season, but I suspect they're already familiar with what he can do...when healthy.

DL: (10): Frank Clark, Tom Johnson, Jarran Reed, Dion Jordan, Rasheem Green, Branden Jackson, Poona Ford, Shamar Stephen, Quinton Jefferson, Nazair Jones. The most noteworthy thing here is that Dion Jordan has been activated and starts the season on the 53. He may not play week 1, but it's still an indicator that he's close to getting back on the field. For this group, it may be the least amount of proven talent going into a season since 2012.

LB (6): Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright, Barkevious Mingo, Shaquem Griffin, Austin Calitro, Jacob Martin. Really like this group a lot. Everyone focuses on Shaquem, but Mingo made all sorts of plays in pre-season. Calitro has been a hammer.

CB (5): Shaquill Griffin, Dontae Johnson, Tre Flowers, Justin Coleman, Neiko Thorpe. Not great news that Maxwell is starting out in IR. That is going to test our depth here big time. I guess that means Johnson is the default week 1 starter at RCB, and that doesn't make me feel all that great. I like most of what I've seen from Flowers though, and I think Coleman is just fine in the slot. For now I'll trust this staff's track record on drafting & developing DBs before I get too panicked about it.

S (4): Bradley McDougald, Tedric Thompson, Shalom Luani, Delano Hill. Luani just added yesterday from Oakland via trade. Obviously the starters are a big step down from what we've been used to, but I see the potential in TT, and McDougald is at least average with versatility to play both positions. It's a big year for Delano Hill to show he can be something beyond a ST guy.

Specialists (3): Sebastian Janikowski, Michael Dickson, Tyler Ott. I'm still confused as to why we moved on from Clint Gresham a few years back, but overall this is a sizeable upgrade from what we had last year. Dickson has been a treat to watch, and if Seabass goes 50% on FGs of 50+ and 85%+ on everything else (and doesn't blow any games on makeable kicks) then I say that is success. Will be interesting to see if they take a look at Dan Bailey though.

On the whole, this is not nearly as much proven veteran talent as we had a year ago. However, I'm not convinced that means it won't be a better season. Playing together in a more complementary way can make up for a gap in talent. Lots of young, hungry players here who want a shot at a payday. It's a lot like 2012 in my opinion, with 1 big difference being this team has year 7 RW vs rookie RW. I really like what we've done at RB, WR, OL, TE, & LB this off-season. Maybe more talent heading into the 2017 season, but it quickly deteriorated with injury and distracted by the politics and big locker room personalities. A lot of that stuff gone now, and I'm looking forward to seeing this group come together and make a new identity.

It just feels to me like for the first time in a long time it's back to football above everything else. No political agendas, no Super Bowl hangover affecting players, and not even a hold out that is distracting the progression of this team; ET has truly become a non issue. I'm ready man, let's start this next chapter already!!

Yeah, I agree. I don't think we are 100% clear of some sort of political to-do regarding the anthem, but I am confident it will be on a much smaller scale that will not have the same draining effect on the team that PC observed and admitted to last season.

My Dad is po'd that they cut McGough. We'll have to see if he sticks on the practice squad or not.

Strange that Davis went on IR. He played on Thursday and I don't recall any indication of an injury.

Thanks for the link.

As the RNC woman with the 'baboon' social media posts illustrates, this discussion ain't going away. The orange-man is going to keep bringing it up.

Will Seattle be AS outspoken as years past? Maybe not. But this will continue to be a 'distraction.' I hope Pete doesn't shoot himself in the foot by being seen as disingenuous.

JD McKissic was put on IR today. He is eligible to return after our 8th game.

What is it with change-of-pace backs and our injury history?

Im going to go out on a limb here and say the offensive line and playcalling were far bigger problems than idiotic "protesting".

Heh. Cable and Bevell were the agents of chaos that instigated the protests...
