Seemingly we picked up Goc to make up for the loss of Sutter.... So now that nothing else went through.. WTF do we have to work with since we have 2 third line centers?

We don't have the wingers to roll with 4 lines in the playoffs so where do both Goc & Sutter fit in?

Clearly this isn't what we were trying to achieve today.

Well until we not see Adams/Pyatt out there on a nightly basis, the 4th line is still a huge problem.

As for the third line, either Goc or Sutter moves to wing.

I honestly think I would feel a little better about this if we ended up with no transactions.

Now it just feels like a total failure although all we lost was 2 picks.

Why? The bottom six is definitely better with Goc. Now it's up to Dan and Ray and do whats best for the team, call up Megna and Harry Z and let them play.

I guess I'm waiting to see how it's handled. When the season started I was all in favor for no moves this year and to just see where the team got itself. Was even that way before the start of today.

I got caught up in the excitement when the Goc deal went through expecting that it was the start of something bigger. If anything I should be pissed at myself for following along today lol. If I only saw the bottom line of a strengthened bottom six without losing anyone I would probably be fine with it. Instead, I watched it play out.

Ok, yeah I hear you, I was in favor of letting it just play out too, although I wanted to see a youth movement.

Although I just saw Lebrun report that Stempniak call is just getting done now, so it seems like that is another solid, if unspectacular move.

Shores up some depth, either Gibbons stays with Sid, and he hasn't looked terrible, and Stemp goes to the third line. Or Stemp plays with Sid, and Gibbons provides some speed to the third line.

Didn't know much about Stempniak... looked him up. Turns out he was a 27 goal scorer in his first year.

Put him with Sid.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree put him with Sid, and see what happens until Bennett comes back, if he ever does.

Any F that doesn't shine on Sid's wing should be working for UPS, not playing professional hockey.

I actually like both moves. By all means their forward depth goes from suspect to pretty good now.

The thought of Stempniak playing with Crosby really helps their bottom six in the fact you can have Vitale, Goc, Sutter, Gibbons, Megna and Glass. With no signs of Adams, Pyatt or Engelland playing.

The fact the we got some warm bodies to hopefully force people like Adams and Pyatt out is a win. Goc will be solid as a bottom 6 guy and Stemp will be fine with Sid until Bennett (hopefully) comes back, then will be fine in a bottom 6 role as well.

This team is going nowhere...these pick ups are not culture/coaching/character changing. Nothing gained, nothing lost.

I liked the moves fellas, we increased our forward depth which is what I wanted more than anything this season.

Yeah I agree they did help a lot but to Scouty's point above about no real culture change, this team is getting complacent. This team does need some sort of boost but unforutnately the top players are here long term and the coach isn't going anywhere.

The one move I would have liked to have seen was some sort of defensive help with Letang and Martin out. But from around the league we know those deals didn't come often or to fit in the Pens cap space.

And I was surprised the number of goalie changes.

That's a huge indictment of the 'draft defensemen' strategy if your out looking for vets at the deadline because of injuries. If you aren't gonna play the young guys now, no reason to ever play them.

But yeah, the pens chances rest of the Sid, Malkin, Neal, Fleury these guys help, but if they crap the bed again like last year, team has no chance of winning anything significant.

I agree 100% I was thinking more along the lines of how the Penguins coaching thinks. To be honest I would rather see Despres and Doumolin playing a lot of NHL minutes right now.

Adams will be playing no matter what, Dan would scratch Crosby before he scratches Adams.

Yep, and with Martin coming back, you know you won't have to fill that spot come playoff time, just till he gets back.
