I voted for "The Catch" I'll never forget the unbridled joy and euphoria of that moment for long-suffering 49er fans, with much of that suffering at the hands of the evil Cowboys.
Honorable mention for me went to Steve Young's TD run. I still laugh out loud at Lon Simmons losing his mind on the call.

The Catch is my favorite 49er moment as you can see from my avatar. Even more than any Super Bowl play

It's what started it all so it has to be the top play.

The Catch II wasn't too shabby, TO's winning grab against Green Bay. Granted it was a wildcard game but still, a 25 yard TD grab squeezed between two defenders, wow!!!! The last play of the game as opposed to The Catch which wasn't the last play.

If that had led to a Super Bowl victory it would probably have a shot.

Yes, if TO's catch was to reach the SB, it should rank right up there if not exceed. It should exceed because it was the last play of the game and 25 yards out.

HOWEVER, The Catch I not only came first but came at a time the 49ers were down right horrible. The 49ers were not just bad, but horrible, from about 1974 to 1979. So getting to the SB in 1981 was very very emotional.

The Catch is #1....clearly.....but if Eric Wright doesn't drag down Drew Pearson in the following drive......

....Yeah....that could be #2.

The catch was my favorite. The 2nd would be John Taylor's TD catch in the Super Bowl

Im biased...deal with it

Craig was a huge performer and deserving of the HOF, but he will forever be known for his fumble against the Giants. That was 1990 and the march to a 3-peat. No doubt in my mind that team would've 3-peated.

So for me this is the worse play in 49er history.

Hmmm, you must be to young to have experienced "The Catch". I can think of no other reason you might say that. Its understandable if you are not old enough to have experienced the three straight playoff losses to the Cowboys in the early 70s and then the fall to being the worst team in the league for several years after that.

I was twelve years old when "the fumble" happened....the first time I had my heart broken in my life.
Don't feel bad, I was in my 30s and it broke my heart. Just had to run out the clock and they would have 3-peated. They would have beaten the Bills easily in the Super Bowl. It was also the end for Montana and Craig; Lott shortly after..

That was when I first started to learn about the lack of class in the 49er organization with the dismissal of Craig then Montana then Lott as soon as they were not needed; even the great Jerry Rice.

Trust me, i'm old enough

Yes, it is The Catch for a reason and that's the history prior to that YEAR. The big Cowboy battles came after The Catch.

i dunno, those are tough decisions but as a GM you look ahead. You can't get too caught up in the past.

no one ever knows when the great ones lose it, but you can't keep them on for nostalgia. better to trade them too early than too late, else you get nothing but memories. But memories doesn't win FUTURE games.
