We already know how Cal will be voting because while Phillips played more games at 2B than any other position he only played about 1/3 of his games at 2B. The question becomes how many people still hold the spitting incident against Alomar, because that is the only reason I see for voting for Phillips.

Don't see how one incident should knock Alomar down in a contest of skill and ability.

Also, who amongst us hasn't wanted to spit on an ump before?

Phillips is actually very close... Really I see them to be similar players, the only real difference is that Alomar was better on the base paths...

In a much closer battle than expected, but Alomar still wins... Only because of the base stealing though... Without it, I would take Phillips... Phillips was slightly better at everything else...

Seriously? Gotta disagree. Alomar, not close

Alomar, .300 career, 12X All Star, 10X Gold Glove
Phillips 266 career, 0 AS, 0GG(and less steals lol)

Alomar, but it's closer than people think. He was very overrated defensively.

Well, you know when a player is not a HR hitter my favorite stat is OBP... so don't really care about BA here... and Phillips had a .374 compared to Alomar's .371... Now I know that is identical... But I did say these players were close...

As for defense, Phillips has a 5.5 dWAR compared to Alomar's 2.4...

I did go Alomar, but these players are much closer than they may first appear...

Which is why Phillips is one of the most underrated baseball players of all-time.

Not really a great gauge considering there were numerous seasons where Phillips was better than Alomar but didn't make the All Star team. Alomar was also horribly overrated defensively.

I'm still taking Alomar, but it's not a big gap between them imo.

I didn't realize just how much you could fuck around with the Fangraphs' leaderboards until you showed how you can select players. Pretty cool.
Yeah. I'm stilling learning new little tricks. If you make a leaderboard of guys that were traded, that "split teams" box is da best. Creating a custom player list is pretty quick, too.

BaseballSavant.com is my next goldmine of free MLB info, but it's still a little above my head. Still learning the best ways to play around.

I have always used BR, but it looks like I may need to give fangraphs a try.
