I'd give it to Ruth and Bonds as co-GOATS.
You simply just can't compare players from those two eras because Ruth didn't have to face fresh lefties out of the bullpen in his last two at bats, lefties throwing 94-98 mph which was the typical speed of relievers in Bonds' time (they throw 98-102 now days). Ruth faced tired starters who had already thrown 80-120 pitches in his last two at bats.

Mays was far superior to Ruth in defense and base running but it was not enough to make up for his offense which paled when compared to Ruth. And while Willie did face some elite relief pitchers in the latter part of his career, most of the relievers in the first half of his career were just journeymen or washed-up starters. In other words, they weren't the same caliber of talented relievers that Bonds faced. So, I can't qualify Mays in this race. I wouldn't even put him third though I think he was a great, great player.

I think you would also do justice to 'greatest player' if you would do a separate poll for greatest starting pitcher and another for greatest reliever, although with that you'd have to wave the white flag: Mo would win greatest reliever no contest.

I too don’t have mays as my top 2. It’s either bonds or Ruth.

The 2 most dominant players of all time. Both players why they are the most dominant is sketchy. But they are the 2 best players.

Not even sure if mays is my third.

I went with Hayes

Don't get me wrong Bonds transcended baseball but I think imo Hayes did more for the game. Yes I'm sure I'll be proven wrong but it's my opinion

I was blown away that Hayes would drop and do push-ups mid game. Such a GOAT.

Mays is historically behind Ruth... I have no issues with that.

Mays' Godson is tough to place when you consider steroids. Statistics should rank him higher....

Interestingly, this is the only list I found with Bonds #2 - but they put Williams #3... I'm a Sox fan and I fond that odd.

Bonds used roids and isn't close to Ruth or Mays.

Statistically he is, but it's hard to ignore the steroids given his best years came well into his thirties.

Prior to the roids, he was similar to Ken Griffey Jr in terms of his impact on the game, but the juicing took him to a different "Mount Rushmore of baseball" type level.
