No idea but Kudos to him for retiring on top. I automatically assumed he would be back to try to repeat and to get that #2 slot for all time victories. Guess it wasn't in the cards. At this point I am hoping for Francona to replace him. Would be fine with Oquendo or even Maddon. Maddon would be a nice get but they'll have to pay restitution to the Rays and the Rays may not be willing to part with him since they are very competitive with him at the helm.
Has there been any talk of Maddon to the Cards? I think if the Cards wanted him, the Rays would HAVE to listen. Their fan-base blows chunks, so there is no reason for them to keep a good manager locked up there. Sell him for whatever they can get and move on.
While their fan base does suck there is absolutely no way in Hades they can build it up without fielding a competitive team. Just no way. I think that organization does many things wrong; however, having a good manager is a big time start to getting things right. Who knows, maybe they relocate in the near future or move to a more palatable place near the area they are located in now. I've heard that the drive to get there is an utter nightmare among other logistical problems. Not many people are going to drive in excess of 1 hour AND fight traffic to boot.
I would much rather have Joe Madden than Francona. Madden would be my number 1 choice without a doubt. Im also hoping Duncan doesnt decide to retire now as well.
