Chris Mortensen links to an article on ESPN by Kevin Stone that lists Tom Coughlin as the 14th greatest coach in NFL history. The page also has an opinion from Eli Manning.

Opinions on this and Coughlin's chances for the NFL HoF?

Hall of fame, probably. 14, probably too high.

I have him around 15-20 hes a good coach, a players coach, meaning he lets the players do what they want.. with in reason of course.. but its not a parcells type regime

He's as much of a HOF lock as any player/coach in NFL history. He's won two Super Bowls and led one of the fastest rising franchises in the modern NFL. 14 seems about right, and might even be a tad bit low.

coughlin has been a coach for 17 years.. winning precentage of .555 , hes 12- 7 in the playoffs with two super bowl wins .. only Noll Belichick Gibs and Walsh have more superbowls to date.. the main thing that would keep him out of the hall would be his winning percentage which he is currently 52 on the list of coaches

This list of top 20 coaches is extremely reactionary. And I like this tweet as well.

He deserves credit for the Super Bowls and will make the hall of fame on them alone. But top 20 when he's as inconsistent as he has been is a big stretch IMO.

If you are going to discount his two titles because he got hot at the right time, then you at least need to mention that he had two teams which were the best teams in the league but didn't win for whatever reason.

The 1999 Jaguars were the best team in the league and dominated a tough slate (outscoring opponents nearly 2:1) but they just couldn't beat Tennessee. People forget that team was 15-0 (!) against teams other than that Titans team that nearly won the Super Bowl.

The 2008 Giants were 11-1 before injuries and the Burress situation got the better of them.
