So like Paul Holmgren, Doug Wilson is going to get a promotion for putting the team in a tail spin

This is the new thing now huh

He'll land on his feet. One hell of a coach.

If you can't land Babs, he's a good second option.

Nooooooo! They are letting the wrong man walk. I worried that they were going to hang this on McLellan and give Doug a pass. Sharks are in for some rough seasons.

Meh. Not McLellan's biggest fan. His teams won 1 game in 2 conference finals in the early years. He had some pretty good rosters in San Jose and tallied up quite a few first round losses. He also couldn't motivate his guys to not blow a 3-0 series lead last spring.

Not my first pick.

He was Babcock's assistant in Detroit before taking the San Jose job. If the Wings lose out on Babcock, there would probably be no better person to fill the void than McLellan.

If there was a misstep, it was not naming Pavelski captain a couple years ago. I've always considered the Sharks shortcomings attributed to on-ice leadership...or lack thereof.

Better than the GR coach?

That's what I was thinking. If he's interested in taking on a rebuild, I'd be happy to have him behind the bench in Buffalo.

With a star draft pick, guys like Kane, Moulson, Bogosian and Ennis and a goalie like Lindback, a coach like McLellan could have a big impact fast.

And there's only so much a coach can do about that. A tough coach can negatively impact a room, but if there's no character, they can't change that for the better as easily.

Ken Hitchcock couldn't get his hands around the Jackets' "country club" a few years back. And he's an amazing coach.

The players never respected him because he shopped for clothes at Walmart

Aaron Ward saying Mike Gillis (not definitive)

makes sense though ... very good friends with Doug Wilson

I'd love to see Blashill stay in Grand Rapids because he's doing such a good job of preparing the kids for Detroit. I realize that some NHL club will come calling soon, though. If no Babcock and no McLellan, Blashill would be my third choice.

He's taken a team to the Cup finals (somewhere the Sharks have never been).

Gillis has the script for the first sharks presser already written ... use the one he used first day in vancouver and replace sedins with Thornton & Marleau ... done!

So does Couture become the new Kesler?

FWIW, given Gillis' excellent track record in handling goaltenders I think he'd be a shoe-in to trade for Ryan Miller.
