Is he any good at catching the ball?

Yes...he can catch the ball. CJ2K would be great if we could put him and Vereen on the field at the same time, cause they bring a similar skill set, but Johnson is much faster.

Sure Johnson hasn't done much recently, but he has had scrubs at QB forcing defenses to take him away. And when your team is losing the running game becomes irrelevant.

As much as I love his talent and think he would revive his career on the Pats, I like Vereen a lot more. Pats need a bruiser like Bush, or some RB that can perform in December/January NE weather.

But since that ship has sailed, I'd be ok with CJ at the right price. He is more of an every down back than Vereen, and while I don't want him taking looks away from Vereen, I'm fine with him taking them from Ridley, and with him sharing the field with Vereen in certain looks.

If the Pats want a guy that will force team to respect the run and take the pressure off the passing game, this is the guy. If the Pats Oline can open holes for Blount to rip off 78 yard TD runs, they can open them up for CJ. As pointed out the price needs to be right, but CJ has to know his time in the NFL is winding down and he needs to play to win, not be part of a rebuild like the Jets.

The Pats find good UDFA RBs so maybe they get the bruiser that way.

Unfortunately, as much as I like CJ, he does not block. That pretty much clinches it.

"WE" don't need him to block, and while I agree that he would be a valuable asset, Bill is not part of "WE".
Bill likes backs that can block. I'm pretty sure Tom does too.


Who knows though, Bill also likes to do exactly what people think he won't.

To a point, sure, but there are other guys who can block. CJ adds a home run threat every play he's on the field, and can keep a pass rush honest in that role. Let them bring 8, dump it to CJ, and none of them is catching him.

And I said earlier in the off season I wish they would bring him in if he's cut.


I just don't see Bill thinking that way.
