Solid depth guy, I guess. Do they think this is going to solve their "problem", which isn't really a problem, though?

It should kill any talks about Tigers trying to land Nathan.

Sounds like an OK pickup in a needed area (bullpen) without giving much up (if at all).

I'm hoping (from a fantasy baseball perspective) they keep him as their closer

Well, if they want to drastically improve their bullpen, then he'd still be worth pursuing, but the cost for Nathan is probably silly and not worth it.

The Tigers need quality bullpen depth. They don't need one great pitcher. No one reliever makes a big difference. There needs to be consistent, reliable depth. Also, the guy managing the bullpen is as big an issue as the actual guys in the bullpen.

I think that's it. Benoit & Smiley are the only truly reliable guys in their pen. Veras makes 3.

The very early word I am hearing is that Veras will not close in Detroit, and that they will stick with Benoit for now. So, those who have Veras as a fantasy closer would be well served to at least start looking for other options.

Benoit has been doing so well that I'd be irked if we fixed something that wasn't broken.

Tigers are saying Benoit stays as closer, Veras is the setup man. I wonder if they keep Smyly in long relief or if maybe something else is brewing...moving Porcello, perhaps?

Well, they have been a mite leaky in the late innings from the right side, minus Benoit, so he's going to be a spot closer behind Benoit, and will present the RH option alongside LH Smyly for the 8th, and will also work alongside Rondon in the 7th. So, yes.. he's a depth guy, and DD is said to be seeking out a lefty of similar quality, if he can find one.

No, Porcello remains in the rotation at # 5. In fact, everything remains the same, he's just a RH set-up option opposite the LH Smyly, and will also spot close when Benoit needs a rest.
