Yep. If I'm a player the only time you're seeing me before training camp is in June for mandatory camp

I don't know nor do i care but vets shouldn't get criticized if they don't wish to show up until mandatory camp in june.

I think it is more useful for guys fighting for a roster spot trying to make a little impression before training camp

I don’t disagree with that. I just merely add new players to an organization.

This was my first thought. Having said that,I don't wish for injury on any of these kids and hope this young man recovers well.
As for the merits of OTA's and the debate over them, each persons choice but it does give a positive impression when a guy shows up even if it's voluntary. I also don't think a freak injury has any bearing. This could easily have happened first day of regular camp. I file it under the old "shit happens" rule.

Eh it's just unfortunate and bad luck. I will say voluntary OTAs probably help to get players in better shape which certainly influences their ability to stay healthy. A lot of HOF players had pretty insane offseason workout regimes. Foster was out of football for quite some time and may not have that workout regime, so an injury IMO for those cases is generally inevitable.
