Its an interesting deal he has with his Japanese club - a 4 year contract with 3 possible opt outs. Does that mean his agent contacts teams during the offseason and if a serious deal comes about, he opts out with the Japanese club?

Well, he's played 8 seasons in Japan, and after 2021 he will have played 9, making him a free agent (except as relates to any contract he signed). I don't know the details of his contract, so I can't comment on that.
