third round reversal

most of us do snake drafts... does anyone use a third round reversal??

it became a thing in the early 2000s because of players like Tomlinson, who if you drafted with the 1.1 you would almost have a guaranteed win...

but in recent years there has been minimal advantage in any draft position...

this season IMO calls for it to be used.... as Bijan and gibbs seem to be a big advantage...

but then i was thinking, when it is a thing only because of the top few players, then doesnt the third round reversal HURT the first owners drafting after the big tier drop??

so i was wondering how affective the third round reversal even was.... and if a modified one is ever used...

How so?? Is there ever a place for third round reversal in your opinion or do you think it’s a myth that the fantasy community invented??

I think by far the most fair draft system is standard snake.

Yes, some slots are preferable depending on the year, but I think the gap between players picked at 36 and 48 is fairly narrow typically.

So 1, 24, 36, 37 just seems like a bad start. Give me 12, 13, 25, 48 all day.

Anything else would be overengineering.

Your LT example is a good one for why it's not worth it in the first place: he only repeated as the top FF RB once, and only in non-PPR. And that second year the "unfair" advantage went to whoever drafted Brady.

I am not championing the third round reversal. I am questioning it. It would not be a a commonly used draft rule in fantasy leagues if it was so awful.

But I guess people around here don’t like it, and don’t consider it at all. Which really surprises me since we are all fantasy junkies.

Maybe it is more used in “expert” leagues and rarely in normal friends/family leagues.

So whenever the 1.1 isn't the best player (which is often), and that owner has to wait until #24 to pick again... that's a terrrible disadvantage! Maybe we need a Round 2 reversal!

it is mostly used in superflex leagues, but again the intent is only when on draft day there is a significant difference between tiers of the first round draft... and i think it is mostly used in leagues over 12 owners...


i even said, in the OP, that in recent years that significant difference in tiers hasnt existed... but i do actually see a big tier difference this season...

it is very rarely used in standard leagues... and in no way am i trying to convert any league we do in here into a third round reversal league....

Even better...........................make every team stay under the salary cap year round or lose their first round pick the following year. Exceed the cap by $.01 and you lose your first round pick.

In that case it seems like it's more to help out the late teams than handicap the early ones, and from that perspective it makes sense. In a 16-team league, getting the 16th and 17th guy and then sitting around for the 32nd and 33rd is pretty tough.
