They have to get rid of these kickoffs…

How gay can you get. I already don’t like the fact that you can’t hit the QB, but this is just too much…

How long before tackling is just outlawed and we are watching flag football lol

"Give me the good old days when players would be so concussed they would get lost trying to drive home or commit suicide due to traumatic brain injuries."

Get off of my lawn.

It doesn't matter what changes are made, somebody is going to bitch about it and act like it changes the whole complexion of the game. This rules changes is a giant WGAF.

I don't mind the new rule. I mean, most kicks went out of the end zone anyway over the past several years.

I can agree here... these PKs are getting so good at kicking the ball that a kickoff was basically just an automatic touchback anyway. Basically it was the wind causing a kick return or just a kicker who was probably gonna be fired anyway after the season was over.

I introduced my Brazilian wife to the NFL with Week 1 of the 2007 season, Bills v Broncos. She sits to watch mid-game and within five minutes Kevin Everett's career ends with a spinal fracture. That was it; she never watched again.

It was a kick-off collision.

This thing right now sucks though. Maybe give the receiving team a 35 on a kickoff touchback, because right now kicking it through the end zone makes sense, so they do and the whole play looks stupid.

Since I always watch my games recorded, I don’t really see a lot of kick offs. I always skip right through to the next real play, but if there was a kick off return that was exceptional, I might go back and look at it.

It's just so artificial. Just play the game as it was. Trying to encourage more returns while minimizing dangerous hits is counterintuitive.

Agree with that, trying to have it both ways doesn't work. It's a violent sport.

Honestly, the entire game bears little resemblance to the one I started watching 50 years ago.

Right, the only reason to replay a return is if someone breaks it. Most of them are just a waste of time and a means to another commercial break.

Don't really mind this new rule but the rule that I absolutely HATE is the stupid "Hey, we are doing an onside kick guys" rule.. Now that is completely stupid and defeats the purpose of an onside kick

Either put the kickoffs back to what they were for decades or just dump the kickoff altogether and start at the 30. The fluke good return and the onsides kick are the only things propping up this otherwise nothingburger.

That's true, but there's no going back.

Probably. They're kinda screwed. If they don't make the game safer in general, kids won't play, and if kids don't play, the NFL will suck.

Until they teach defenders to wrap tackle instead of throwing shoulders, injuries will always be a part of the league. Defense is too often an attempt at intimidation instead of skill.

We're treating the kickoff as if it were a 1 sided rule. A game-breaking TD return is off the board and so is a fumble recovery, which takes a little anticipation away from the game.It takes away each team's hope for something to swing their way

The receiving team should have the choice, get the ball at their own 20 or have the opposing team kick from their own 20 thus giving the receiving team an opportunity to enhance their field position

The kickoff isn't even the dumb rule. The dumb rule is the kicker can't pass the 50 before the player catches the ball. They really think the kicker is going to lay the wood so no head start for these brick walls. Ridiculous.
