I bet that was when Cal had that lesbo dyke AD.
Now that is not very representative for a true left coaster. Left coasters are the epicenter for accepting diversity man. Come on, get with it.

That sounds more like something a West Texas hick would say! :suds:

Academics/lack of academics.

Welsh had decent success at UVa in the 80s and 90s. I think he's proof that you can do fairly well at UVa. They have been mostly mediocre since he left.

Mack Brown did a pretty good job there in the 90s, but they really haven't done anything since then. The academic scandal there makes things any stranger. They cheated for a couple of 8-5 seasons w/ Butch Davis. :L On paper, UNC should be a pretty decent football gig.

Where would they even hold it at Wake? They'd have to go
back onto campus, because there is no room outside of Groves
Stadium, unless they're going to take up the entire parking lot.

A lot of it is is that we haven't really had great QB play since Schaub left. Also, we didn't recruit well in the Tidewater area for many years, which is where a lot of the best recruits in the state are located. Virginia Tech was able to capitalize on our negligence there and have been the premiere football school in the state. And finally, our head coaches haven't been great. Hell, I still think that Mike London set this program back many years by his idiocy. I think that Bronco will be fine but how far he can take the Cavs remains to be seen.

Honestly, I'd put us at just above Illinois on the original list. We're aren't going to be good enough any time soon to justify a visit.

Actually I think Cal has the best shot of that bunch. Iowa st is better right now, but if Cal ever goes on a run I can see a USC, Stanford, Washington, Oregon matchup getting game day. Ames is going to be a hard sell and Iowa st may have already peaked last year. How long till that coach bails?

Are you suggesting that schools that excel in academics suck at athletics and/or vice versa?
No. It was a joke. VA has stringent academics requirements while UNC has fake academic requirements.

Honestly, part of this is a bit of Jography. When it gets late in the season, Gameday don't wanna be out in the cold in Champaign, or Minneapolis, or Syracuse. For those schools to get a visit, they need to be ranked in the top 10-15, pre-season, AND they need to be playing a team with a decent pulse during the first 3-4 weeks.

My feelings on the order of likelihood:

Iowa St.
Maryland
Virginia
.
.
Then, if one or more of the following teams starts 3-0 or 4-0 and has an interesting opponent coming up: Duke, California, Kansas, Syracuse
.
.
After that, I think Troy, Hawaii, West Florida or Liberty might make an appearance before:
.
.
Minnesota
Illinois
Rutgers
Wake Forest

They usually go to a small school once a year. I would love to see Mt. Union (div 3) be a host. They've won a lot of Div 3 nattys this century.
