I went to the game Friday night and the Giants lost 3-1. Coming home on the train you get to meet interesting people. Some fans have been following the team for a long time like me. I struck up a conversation with a guy about what the Giants plans might be for the end of this year and for 2014.

I brought up Tim Lincecum's name and what plans the Giants might have in mind for 2014. All of a sudden the guy next to me got involved in the conversation and he had his thoughts . I noticed a couple of other peoples ears perk up and listen more closely. It almost seemed to be a E.F. Hutton commercial where everyone wanted to know about Tim Lincecum.

There is something about Lincecum where people are always rooting for him. A smaller man who looks so young, about a buck -sixty taking on the world on the mound...how could you not root for him. He has won two Cy Young Awards and 2 WS Championships and he is a home grown player out of the Farm system. Tonight he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs and 8 strikeouts earning a victory for the Giants. It was good to see the Giants win 6-3 and everyone who rode the train tonight had to smile and think about that kid who has been doing his thing for the hometown team all these years.

One thing is for sure is that when you mention Tim Lincecum's name ....people listen. I hope they work out a deal so Giants fans can keep talking about him being a Giant.

Go Giants !!

For those too young to remember here is a E.F. Hutton commercial from 1979.

Timmy has been a rock star to Giants fans. We all appreciate what he has done for the team. Moving forward, the question becomes what will his role on the team be and how much is it going to take to keep him here. He has been struggling for a couple of years now. Wondering whether he can ever be the Timmy of old.

There are a couple of Timmy discussion threads around here, take a look.

It's pretty fair to say he's never going to be the Timmy who wins Cy Youngs again, because he no longer has a 96 mph fastball to work with. But he appears to have finally after almost 2 years learned how to pitch and control his pitches at the lower velocity, and can be a decent #3 starter.

I'd love for him to be our #3 starter, but will another team overpay him like a #1?

If he leaves for more money (I doubt he will; he will leave for a better situation, but I doubt $$will be the driving factor) than we will get the draft pick, and we will have to make a trade for a #3 pitcher. We have enough pieces in the system to make that kind if trade, I think.

We may also make a run at Josh Johnson, but only as a reclaimation project. If he is looking for #2/#3 money, good luck elsewhere.

I'd be shocked if Timmah doesn't re-sign here for something like 2/25, or simply the QO.
