Hawks got to start hitting on their 3-6th rounders again. Maybe i should say 1st through 7th rounders again because my gosh the picking has been slim lately lol
Flat out need to hit on 3-4 players that can contribute. Maybe only 2 if they hit a home run. Not easy from their draft position, but needs to happen.

Thing is the Seahawks aren't in a position to make big moves, resigning Clowney isn't a big move IMO. Once your on the level of being a regular playoff team, improvements are hard to come by in truth. Cap space never adequate for real improvement and draft position is such that it's difficult to hit in the draft. Improvements are made in small increments, if at all. Think the Seahawks are doing what they can to improve and are on the right path. At the end of the day playoff teams just need some luck/ skill at hitting on players in the draft despite the disadvantage of drafting late.

I get all that. I get why we sometimes have to players go. We had to move Frank Clark because we couldn't afford him at the time.

And I get that Clowney comes with some risk, primarily injury risk. But when he was healthy last year he was a pretty imposing force on the DL both in the run and pass. He doesn't get the sacks because he isn't a pin your ears back and chase the QB player. He is a point of attack defender who stops the run AND provides a pass rush. He's a great fit for our defense.

We may wind up losing him. But I have to say if we lose him because we wouldn't pay him $16 million, I'm going to be pretty disappointed.

Last I heard he was asking for 21 million and he's not worth that IMO. @16 million would be the upper limit for me, honestly think Griffen could be a really good addition. Not the run defender perhaps , but a better pass rusher and players like Reed could take up the slack on running plays and if it saves millions I'm for it.

Griffen is 32 years old. I wouldn't mind having him as well but as our No. 2 D lineman but he seems like another Bruce Irvin to me.

I honestly don't know where he goes from acceptable cost to too high.

I think I'm probably with you on this.

Clowney and his agent(s) are likely basing their demands on the player that Clowney can be, not the player he consistently is. I believe the thinking is that a team isn't going to commit that much money to a guy who isn't regularly producing double digit sacks and who is a better run defender than pass rusher.

Frustrating thing is that if we roll with Griffen and Irvin as the primary edge rushers in 2020, we're going to once again have to address this issue next offseason.

For whatever it's worth, I believe PFF gave a higher pass rush grade to Griffen than Clowney, but Clowney had a drastically higher run defense grade. Albeit that's only worth as much confidence you place in PFF and the value you place in run defense from a DE.

A lot of that depends on what we do in the draft...

Can't believe Doug Baldwin is done.... Man if we had Doug/Tyler/DK this division would be a lock, ours.

So we make a trade where we give up assets we need to fill other positions just so we can make some other guy as much ore more than Clowney?

This defense is going to be pretty poor if the only thing we do is bring back Clowney or grab one of those other guys.

I'm not saying give up the draft for the dude in Jax but he's only 25 and has avg close to 10 sacks in his 4yrs. I'd rather go in that direction of an edge rusher coming into his prime vs giving Clowney a 2yr deal. Seattle will have cap space next year to resign him.

$1,047,500 Is His Salary for 2020, that's chump change for a VET WR. Jaron Brown made $2.7 Million for 2019 lol

Yep... Just like Metcalf last season... I'm pretty on on our OLB, Cody Barton... He's a gem... He should be a starter this season, which makes it interesting what's going to happen with KJ and Kendricks...

Cody Looks good but he is on the slower side so his chase wont be top level but you don't have many LBers that do chase like that. Bobby has spoiled us with his 4.46 speed. Still Cody shows excellent short area quickness and should be a good starter but i feel he is more suited for Middle linebacker than outside linebacker.

so Dorsetts cap hit is only like $900,000 nice.

Brady HendersonESPN
Phillip Dorsett's one-year deal with the Seahawks is worth $1,047,500 with $137,500 guaranteed, according to ESPN's Roster Management System. His base salary is $910,000 and he got a $137,500 signing bonus. He'll count $887,500 against the cap with the minimum-salary benefit. The max amount of bonus money (signing or roster) a contract can contain and still qualify for the minimum-salary benefit this year is $137,500. That's exactly how much Dorsett's deal contains, all in his signing bonus.
