Barfknecht...."By the end of the first quarter, Missouri trailed 24-0 and its running backs had all of four carries for 1 yard."

Barfnecht's never been a NU homer (voted Michigan #1 over NU in 1997), but I don't know that Barfknecht's that far off in his article. It's no mystery NU's secondary is the best in the country. Why would a team attack the statistical strength of a defense after 8 games of info? The majority of Gabberts sacks, incompletions, and just plain throw aways (out of bounds) were coverage related. The square peg wasn't fitting into the round hole but they kept trying. So the Pelini's dialed up a 'minor' wrinkle on the front four. Where was Missouri's wrinkle to their same old non-physical WAC spread offense with the same old Missouri twist? I've said it before and I'll say it again, that spread Missouri runs has seen it's day. It's not a zone read, it's a variation of fun & gun, run for none. It worked when it was new in the early-mid 2000's but good DC's can shut it down now. The game has run a cycle and being physical is back.

18 of 42 for 42.9% is just continued history of big name QB's struggling against the Blackshirts. Manning, Weurfel, McCoy, Locker, Gabbert

3 and out
3 and out
one 1st down by penalty
3 and out..

To sum up Barfknecht's article Missouri was outcoached and outplayed. You can be sure the rest of Missouri's opponents (regular season and bowl) will be watching that game film..

True, but the guy can still give Nebraska just a tiny bit of praise. He doesn't know for sure if Missouri would be any more successful with just running the ball against NU.
