It's almost like Tippett doesn't have that dawg in him like Konecny or even young Michkov. Just imagine if he did. I mean, the sky would pretty much be the limit. Dude could be a perennial 40 goal scorer.

For sure. Definitely wish he had it because I agree 100%, he has the tools to be a 40 goal scorer. Main reason I think he could still be a 20-25 goal scorer on the 3rd line is because a lot of his offense he generates on his own. That is, when he's generating offense and not just out there doing nothing. But when he's contributuing it's because he's flying through the neutral zone and either ripping a shot or driving the net hard to create something. Almost doesn't matter who his linemates are to do that. Or if he gets PP time. He only has 17ppg in his 363 NHL games. He has a good enough shot to be a PP weapon, but he just, isn't.

Like I said though, I'd be fine with moving him. The depth you mentioned is exactly the reason. They'll probably have to move a winger for a C or D at some point. Just a matter of which one returns the "right" value. I like all the other guys you listed more than Tippett, but if say Brink gets you a #2-3 dman and Tippett returns a 4-5, maybe Brink is the "right" value. Just pulling values out of thin air for an example. Don't have an active interest in trying to move Brink.

I would say guys like Brink, Forester, Cates, Michkov and TK are our top core right now, Add Zegras to that list if they sign him long term. Out of those players, Tippett makes the most sense to move. I definitely think we could swindle something decent for him. I'm still kinda rooting for the Byrum deal.

FINALLY!!

Owen Tippett realizes that you can help the team in a lot of other ways besides taking the puck coast to coast and scoring a highlight reel goal.

He deflects a shot that Zegras puts home, makes a couple of nice passes to Dvorak that he finishes and gets open in prime scoring area in the 3rd here to net one himself off a pass from Zegras. Also, this was an extremely clutch goal that keeps us in the game.

The stat line is 3 assists and 1 goal with 4 shots and a +4 rating and it's not over yet.

Still a 5-5 game here late in the 3rd, but unlocking Tippett is perhaps way more important than the end result of this one game.

Definitely need to keep talking shit about Tippett, 4 point night. Imagine if our top line was producing too.

It's still early. The entire outlook of someone's season can change in one night and Tippett has accomplished that. He was on pace for about 26 goals and 5 assists for 31 total points. Suddenly, he's now on pace for 29/19/48, which is right about what he averages in 3+ seasons with us.

I'm still not adverse to trading him. It's been said before, but there are too many roosters in the hen house, so to speak, meaning too many top 6 wingers within the franchise.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out moving forward. Does Tippett settle in, become more consistent and play out his contract here or does he just increase his value and get moved?

Either way, why can't he have more games like this one!? He's definitely set up for success on a line with two veterans who can really play, including our top scorer.

The game last night was ridiculous. I only wish I could have stayed to watch the shootout live. I had to head into work instead. We erased a two goal deficit twice and just never gave up. All along, it was looking like Binnington was just going to outduel Ersson and we were going down. The line of Zegras, Dvorak and Tippett brought us even with about 9 and a half minutes to play.

We barely had possession of the puck at all in the OT, but still managed several glorious scoring chances that were all stopped by Binnington. During Zegras' penalty shot attempt, I recall thinking what a great scenario for us and even if he gets stopped, he'll have a second chance at it in the shootout. Sure enough, that's what happened. Binnington shut him down and stared him down too, then Zegras got the ultimate revenge in the shootout and we took home that extra point. He is now an absurd 16 for 24 (nearly 67%) in shootout attempts and Ersson is 11-3 in shootouts. Those numbers are completely insane.

Also, it's certainly a different dynamic, but ironically, I think we're below average when facing or having breakaways in-game and yet now we're incredible in the shootout format. That doesn't really make a lot of sense. Again, Binnington stopped Zegras on the penalty shot, but not in the shootout. I suppose we would not be great in a long shootout because we don't have the shooters beyond two or three, but fortunately, most of them end quickly because Zegras scores and our goalies slam the door shut...Lol

Furthermore, Ersson gave up 5 goals on only 17 shots in regulation (the 1st was a breakaway by Kyrou), then he puts up a wall in the shootout.

It's a small sample size, but either way, you have to appreciate how this team battles relentlessly. It's gonna be a war, but I bet we could actually make the playoffs on the strength of winning shootouts. Those are points that we just automatically lost in the not so distant past.

All of that said, we have to make it in on points. We aren't going to win any tiebreakers with a 19-0 (technically, this is our pace) or 18-1 record in shootouts...Lol

Nobody else has more than two shootout wins and we have four in only 17 games. A handful of teams have already played in 19 games.

I feel like we just got spanked by one of the best teams in the league. For them to be that good without Benn, Harley and Duchene just ain't right.
