Zetterberg played all 82 games last year in a season that was over for the Wings in December but now his back's fucked just as the real salary on his cap-circumventing contract starts dipping hard?

Somewhere, Hossa is laughing hard in his hockey gear.
Oh yeah I wasn't saying anything about the cap circumvention but BS you will let him leave the game in a crappy manner.

Gotta think a 4 year deal from the Canucks is just a phone call away :D

Because it's clear cap circumvention.

The Caps signed Orpik to a contract that they began to regret (shockingly) that everyone knew from day 1 was too much for too long. The CBA doesn't allow re-negotiation of contracts, holdouts, etc., leaving buyouts as the only option. The CBA also doesn't allow trading of cap space.

But nobody would believe that they executed this trade to Colorado without an agreement - in principal at least - that the Avs would buy him out and they'd be able to re-sign him for much less money and cap hit. I don't see how it's any different than if they had just traded Grubauer to Colorado for a few million of Colorado's cap space.

The NHL and the Caps both announced today that the situation was investigated and there was a finding of no wrongdoing by the Caps

Philly's retaining 30% of Gudas' contract.

So they give up the better (IMO) player and retain salary while taking on a higher cap hit.

Why are they helping the Caps here lol

Oh, we're doing this here? I just made a Kadri joke in another thread concerning this trade.

My day is not off to a good start.

If he can stay a 50 pt player throughout, it’s a great deal.

A couple more sub-40 pt seasons though and it gets ugly pretty quickly.

Quietly in the sense that no one is even answering the phone when the Leafs call.

Well, the Caps play the Flyers 4 times each year. So when Gudas inevitably and purposefully puts Niskanen on LTIR it really translates into cap savings for the Flyers.

Next level thinking right there. They're playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

Good trade by the Caps - get out from the contract and get a goon to take some of the limelight away from Tom Wilson. Shrewd move if you ask me.

/just wait for the inevitable scrap at practice between Gudas and Wilson
