I read an article a few weeks back about how Castillo being here/healthy is actually key to Collins getting and staying here. It also had something to do with Alonso's contract and him being able to be DFA'd after a certain time frame. I don't know... it's hard to keep track of the dates with this shit sometimes.

Agreed. That first inning was evidence enough that he shouldn’t be starting, let alone be on the club.

Shields would be the number 2 on this staff. How can’t you find a pitcher with an era in the mid 4s? It’s almost unbelievable how shitty their starters 2-5 are. I get they are rebuilding but you can’t find a couple average starting pitchers to be somewhat competitive out there

This is why I'm holding out slim hope that Hahn & Williams can convince Reinsdorf to open the checkbook and sign one of the key FA pitchers this upcoming offseason. The two biggies, Cole and Odorizzi, are not going to come cheap by any stretch, but then again, we have tons of available space to compete against any other club, assuming again that Reinsdorf gives the ok. Sadly, I don't consider that a given.

Ok, for the sake of argument, let's just say WHOEVER is calling the financial shots, let's hope he opens the checkbook in the offseason. There, all settled now.

They may cheap out but I would bet against it. This plan that started a couple years ago is right on track. The final straw is to get a Verlander, which may well be one of those guys.
