the bottom 4 teams in the west right now:

12 Colorado
13 Minnesota
14 Calgary
15 Edmonton

(even with that, Edm is only 7 pts out of 8th)

And next year it may very well be again. So goes the NHL.

Four teams with rabid fanbases (not including Colorado, at least not anymore) who strive to make the playoffs every season (don't believe what the media says about Edmonton's masterful rebuilding plan, you don't spend to the cap (not including this season) if you're blowing the team up and rebuilding). You make one or two personnel mistakes and it's easy to struggle in these days of parity and 3-point games.
