They're threatening to fine JR if he doesn't cover his tatoo. Beyond ridiculous

Meh, apparently there is a rule against having visible corporate logo tattoos or products.

That's understandable considering they make millions of dollars off of corporate sponsorships.

I'd expect that all leagues have a similar rule. Don't want to upset sponsors by potentially advertising for their competitors.

Apparently, much like the score of games he's playing in, JR didn't know this.

What is that one on the top, like a Jumpman in pants, but he wears Reeboks??? That's just odd. If that is a Jumpman though, Nike is the apparel sponsor of the NBA, if Adidas or Reebok got it I wouldn't be surprised if that was asked to be covered.

As for WB, I believe that is his West Baltimore one where he grew up. And since there's not really anyone paying for the "official movie company of the NBA" he isn't called out on it is my guess.

But companies pay the NBA big bucks to be their official brand. And that means even if you don't drink gatorade, that's fine, but you are drinking it from a gatorade cup.

Nike spent a billion dollars to be the official exclusive apparel provider for the NBA. That's $500 million dollars that the players get for only having Nike out there on the court. And part of that deal is players can't advertise competitors.

JR Smith is one of 300 players who are going to earn around 200k a year for the next 8 years for the NBA saying you can't wear or promote other stuff during games. If the NBA lets anyone put up their own ads during that game, why spend that billion dollars?

I think he did know it. Oubre and him were told to remove their branded stuff last year during games. But now they got a LOT of free advertisement with this.

Its necessary to do this. I can definitely see a scenario where a company (like Supreme) would pay an athlete for a tattoo in a visible location. So while that might not be the case here and its entirely innocent, they have to do this to protect for every possible circumstance

I find it ironic that the OP thinks the NBA is lame while some idiot is tattooing his body with free advertisements.
