^Never said it wasn't. It's just not this guarantee to win like people are portraying the Dodgers thing.

I don't think anyone believes it's a guarantee. Need some some smarts for sure. But how much smarts did it take to say in a meeting, "I think this Ohtani guy is pretty good and likes the idea of playing in LA for a lot of money. We should try and make that happen.......maybe we can get Freeman and also pay a bunch of SPs a lot of money, too. Hell, if they don't pan out just spend more."

All that said, I do have a bigger problem with a team like the one I cheer for (the Tribe) crying poor and having no will to win and going so far as to cut payroll to near the bottom in a contending window. If you don't want to win, why buy a team?

and assuming you are new, welcome aboard!!

>I don't think anyone believes it's a guarantee.

People are ranting that it's ruining the sport. I'm not sure how you say that if you don't think it's some sort of guarantee. But, then again, is this whole thing started by overreactionary children on Reddit?

Because if you agree it's no guarantee than why complain? Technically it's no different than the run KC just had in the NFL where they were in every conference final at least. Or that NBA run where we had Golden State and Cleveland in the finals every damn year. And those are in sports with a cap. So it's not like it's outlandish to have one team at the top and everyone's trying to knock them off...in the end, it's just a good villain for everyone to cheer to go down, much like the Evil Empire in the 90s/00s. Everybody loved when the Diamondbacks finally knocked them out. It's hard to say this is entirely a bad thing unless they were guaranteed a win every year.

>But how much smarts did it take to say in a meeting, "I think this Ohtani guy is pretty good and likes the idea of playing in LA for a lot of money.

I agree on this but this is advantage of location more than anything. There's a huge Asian community on the West coast so it's far easier to lure the Japanese players. Seems like a vast majority of them end up on Cali so I'm not sure this is just a spending thing.

I am and thank you, sir. Seems to be a lot of knowledgeable sports dorks around here.

All that matters is how the other owners feel about it and it’s pretty obvious changes are wanted.

If you cannot see how it's different between what LA did and GS not even worth a discussion.

And FYI, I'm not ripping LA in any way. They are playing by the rules and good for them. The rules need some changing IMO and prefer a floor moreso than cap but both would be nice.

I mean, it's kind of crazy that, say, the Pirates can play a NY or LA team and be paid 5 or 10X less to play the game by their network when without them there is no game for the NY or LA team to reap their rewards.

Problem is the cheap owners and spendy owners have totally different preferences

I think the percentage that agrees with the cheap owners on this topic is pretty big though. Going to be interesting.

The spendy owners want a floor and no cap. The players want the same. Most owners want no floor and a cap. If the owners can’t agree how can they make a deal? Best thing for the fans is floor and cap but no one in the sport wants that

It takes 23 owners in agreement for anything. I expect that number to agree on a cap and a floor but the floor won’t be very high to start. Then the lockout and the games begin.

Why is it crazy? They get paid according to the eyeballs they bring to the tv? If the Pirates are playing the Dodgers or Yankees...who do you think the majority of people are tuning in to see?

There's already enough socialism is sports with revenue sharing.

Do you think the NFL and NBA would be better off without salary caps?
