Please rank the following in importance:

Points
Assists
Total Rebounds
Blocks
Steals
Field Goal Percent
Offensive Rebound
Three Point Percent
Turnovers
Free Throws Missed
Field Goals Percent (More/Less Team Average)*
Fouls
+/-

*Jazz Shoot 47.1% for the year. If a player shot better than that in a game, that’s good. If they shot less than that, that’s bad. Too hard to go based on individ team game percentages, so took season.

Can we call this thread either the "The MHSL82 Thread" or "Yet Another Question From MHSL82"? To mirror thread titles with my SN.

Rebounds are a function of missed shots forced, since about 70% of rebounds are defensive.

It's also a function of which team has more shot attempts.

But not always.

If one team goes 40/50, another team goes 30/80, it's hard to compare with total rebounds. Rebounding percentage is better indicator.

Are you going to rank all of the teams that made the play-in or better; assign a weight to each category in the order ranked; then come up with a composite score, using that team's regular season data?

So for the 20 play in teams or better, if a team was # 1 in turnovers forced, they would get the most points times the most weight.

Reasons why assists isn't higher:

* It doesn't indicate defense.
* It doesn't indicate how those assists were formed. There have been a lot of teams with high assist totals, that don't really do that well in the playoffs because they don't get those fastbreak points.

Teams that can get assists not on fast breaks, are better.

It sounds like you were answering it based upon team stats. That’s understandable because obviously I didn’t say what I was going to use it for. How about your ranking for individual performance or importance to the game?

Yes, I was using what I think is most important to team success or winning games.

Ok, I'll get back to you on individual importance.

That’s understandable

I'm glad you finally understand me. I like bubble baths, long walks on the beach, and someone who understands me.

Is that a facepalm? I can't tell, it's a little small. I also think these reaction sizes are a little smaller than they used to be.

Total Rebounds - An indicator that a there's probably a lot of defensive rebounds, and stops, while securing the ball.

Assists and total rebounds have some issues. Assists requires others to make shots. No assist without the made shot.

Total rebounds requires others to miss shots. If teams aren't missing shots, then there won't be as many rebounds available.

Because he was hurt?

I assigned varying amount of points to different stats and then averaged them from how many games they played times 82. I averaged that with total points, so Ingles would score higher in average per game but low on total points. When I say points, I’m not talking about scored points in the game. Just different values.
