Sometimes you watch personnel moves made by another team -- or by our own Redskins -- with a health dose of skepticism. But then there's the things like the Stalin-esque purge that Chip Kelly is pulling off that simply take your breath away. How this guy thinks that jettisoning you three best offensive players -- all of whom would start on most NFL teams -- with very little left in cupboard bat s**t crazy. And that's not including others he's cut like Todd Herremans and Trent Cole.

Now, he's looking to add to his madness by grossly overpaying Brandon Browner. Let's hope his next step is negotiation with us for our fifth overall pick. If he does want to play ball on that note, McCloughan should bring a Marcus Mariota Fathead to those negotiations.

Tweet I saw...

'Ssssh, don't bother Chip while he's 'fixing' his team'

I honestly don't get it. He sure is making things interesting.

I wonder what Jeff Lurie is thinking now that he handed over the keys to the kingdom to this madman. I'm enjoying it, though.

It's like Vinny Cerrato has possessed Chippy. We can only hope it continues.

They just guaranteed Frank Gore 2 years and handed him the starting job. Yes 32 year old Frank Gore.

Actually this is quite different than the dread Vinny era. His mistakes were in the area of horrible draft picks & huge, high profile FA signings. Thus far all we have seen from Kelly is getting rid of high profile players. Whether this will be good or bad for the Eagles remains to be seen. They have a lot of cap room & with the right moves might do alright.

I don't think that it will necessarily be a huge problem at RB since teams can fix that area pretty easily even with rookies (look at Morris). However - getting the WR position back in order may be another matter. Should be interesting.

Yes, there is that difference. But both are making some really bad personnel moves, and arrogantly thinking they're smarter than everyone in the room.

this is how i see it too, its not like they are trading players for draft picks, they just let maclin go (26), traded mccoy (26) for kiko (coming off acl tear and is only two yrs younger than mccoy). they replaced mccoy with frank gore.... isnt chip about speed? why let 26 year old pro bowlers go?

Kiko Alonso actually had two torn ACLs and was suspended by Chippy once for a DUI.

First of all I hope that all these moves backfire on the team - in no way am I pulling for Kelly. Beyond that - they have lots of cap space & will likely sign lots of other players in hopes - I would guess - in retooling this team over the next few seasons. Gore is not totally a replacement for McCoy since he is much cheaper. My guess is that he is a stopgap while the team drafts their future long term RB. They are probably gambling on the fact that McCoy doesn't have much left in the tank (especially at that price). I hope that they are guessing wrong.

If McCoy doesn't have much left in the tank, what about Gore? Keep in mind that McCoy has lost less tread on his tires than others have suggested. In his first two years, Shady carried the ball sparingly. And he's never carried the ball for more than 20 carries a game thereafter.

Essentially, the Eagles traded McCoy for Gore. I'd love to ask Chippy on what planet does that make any sense? They also got rid of D-Jax and Maclin but re-signed Riley Cooper? Huh?! Chippy then got rid of Todd Herremans and may cut Evan Mathis, arguably the best o-lineman in the NFL. While they do have Jason Kelce and Lane "PED" Johnson as young talent on their o-line, they're also facing a hole at LT since Jason Peters is 33 this year.

Kelly-gula apparently is serious about his system. We'll see about that. In the NFL, players win games for you, not systems. Shanahan found that out when he thought a 3-4 defensive scheme would produce more turnovers for us. But when you've got people like Baccarri Rambo playing safety, that system ain't worth you-know-what.

Maybe Chippy is some made genius. Right now, I think he's just mad.

having all that cap space is great but you would think they would use that to resign their best players who are only 26. they're not gonna find younger or better guys in the free agency than them too. if they sign some top free agents they will over spend. their best route would be to sign a bunch of young B level guys

Could it be as simple as this....

Chip wants what he had on the college level. Young hungry players that feel beholden to the coach for giving them a shot. The one thing a college coach coming to the NFL really doesnt want is alot of established stars who might challenge his method. So that appears to be what Chip is going for, guys who either

1. Already played under him
2. Guys who have not been in the NFL long enough to realize its a business and might have ideas contrary to what Chip wants.
