That's always been one of my favorites.

I watched a good "oldie" last night:

Reign of Terror (1949) (also goes by the title "The Black Book")

I particularly enjoy movies about historical events. This movie is about the French Revolution. The leader, Robespierre, has a "Black Book", that contains all the names of people he has decided to execute. The movie revolves around covert attempts to obtain the book, which would obviously have very negative consequences for Robespierre.

Thanks. Gonna look this one up.

Broke out my Bullitt BluRay yesterday.

Take out the car chase and it still stands on merit. Detailed medical room scenes, police procedures, etc.

Love it.

Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith

So five months later and I've finally made it up to Clone Wars where Episode 3 kicks in. The subtext of Clone Wars really does help the movie work. I always felt it was rushed and underdeveloped and now I can just enjoy it as a finale to something with seasons of build up.

Really I only have nitpicks for Episode 3 when compared to the first two prequels. Anakin still has a bad actor. The ending still doesn't work. The birthing scene just kinda sucks and the whole 'NOOOO' thing is still pretty dumb. Its so very mechanical compared to the rest of the movie as if it only exists to set up the other movies and in no way makes the current movie better. But overall, the Star Wars geeks are right. This is the 'good' prequel movie. But only because of Clone Wars giving everything meaning.

B

I guess there is still more Clone Wars after this.

Sands of Iwo Jima. My dad has always been a huge John Wayne fan and since it was Memorial Day, I figured one of my first movies of his I'd watch would be this one (been getting more interested in older movies over the past few years compared to the more recent ones). I would've watched The Longest Day but it isn't available to stream. But still, I didn't regret watching this at all as I thought it was a good war movie worth checking out.
The Longest Day was a great movie. I saw it with my Dad as a teenager, maybe early sixties. We went into Radio City Music Hall to see it.

After my 5th viewing of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it’s still the best MCU movie in my book.

Really? So you think it would be a cult classic if they never did the car chase scene? That's the only thing I really remember about the movie. Not saying it's bad, but the chase just dominates my memory of the movie.

To me, that one and Infinity War are my favorites.

I'm saying it's solid on it's own.

You disagree, I'm OK with that.

I watched Invasion of the Body Snatchers for the first time in maybe 35 years over the weekend.

Wow. This movie actually holds up. I was expecting to be bored out of my mind, as most of the classic horror flicks from the 70s and early 80s have a pace that just doesn’t translate to today’s movie experience (Rosemary’s Baby, Omen…). But this one was actually quite well paced, and the special effects were surprisingly good (for a 1978 movie).

The Robert Duvall cameo was a bit confusing, though. I kept waiting for his character to show back up later in the story, but he never did. I looked it up after the movie, and apparently he did the job for free just because he happened to be in town at the time and it only required a couple hours of his time.

Judas and The Black Messiah. Probably my favorite from last year so far. Excellent performances especially by the 2 leads. I was only familiar with the story in broad strokes and went to other sources after watching it to see if they'd exaggerrated things. But from what I've found, this movie is pretty much the way it happened. 9/10

Green Book (2018)

It was good but definitely one of the least impressive Best Picture winners I recall seeing.

I saw Nomadland a few weeks ago too.. and sorry, but I just don't get it. Not because it's boring, because it wasn't really boring to me and McDormand is very good as usual.

I read a couple, of the very few negative reviews that it received, that kind of summed it up for me. "This is the nicest movie about homelessness, financial despair and human frailty you'll ever see." and "It's Grapes of Wrath without the wrath". 6/10
