Lets forget about foles, or bortles. That D is what made them scary two years ago, crazy good. THen last year they went to mediocre. We expected the D to step forward and get even better

Does this D rebound and get back to elite status? Because if they do, any upgrade to qb makes them an instant contender

Mmm... their D was till top 5 and one of the best pass defending teams in the league.

If they can get a healthy Fournette and serviceable QB, they should be on track to do okay. Anyone who rated the Bortles signing anything but an F should be banned from anything 'NFL Google' related.

As a Jags fan. I thought Bortles took 2 steps forward 2 seasons ago and took 6 steps back last year.

As for the Defense. IDK, they could go either way.

They could make every team their bitch like 2 years ago

Or

They could be inconsistent like last year

The defense was dejected and gave up in many games because of how horrid the offense was. I think if they are in the playoff picture you have no worries of that D showing up.

We'll see how many pieces they end up losing tho this offseason

Jags just became a team that can challenge the Pats in the AFC, I feel ... Nick is a guy that can give them clutch play at the QB spot and if there D can keep them in games Nick can give them a shot to win close games...

Agree 100%!

That D is still elite. The offense took ZERO pressure off of them with their play last year. Even just an average offense makes this team a force to be reckoned with!

A post #2 said, they were still top 5....on paper. Either way, they were better than mediocre...I tend to measure DEF against the best QBs on their schedule more so than the raw data.

I think they are still very good against the pass, but can the continue to get 20 sacks a yr from the two DEs when one of them is 33 y/o? I think 1 or 2 other guys are 30 or near it on DEF. Regardless, if they retain Ramsey and stay relatively injury free, they should be in the top 10 or even repeat top 5....they still need better weapons on OFCto make this Foles deal work out short term.

They didn't have elite level turnovers LY, but very good...like every team, the window of opportunity is closing...they've wasted 2 yrs of it with Bortles.

They won't be able to keep all of that talent around while staying under the cap. Last year was an important opportunity that slipped through their hands.

Exactly...they have $35 mil tied up in, 3 key DEF players...all hovering around or surpassed 30 on the DL.

With AJ Bouye making $15 mil per, Gipson making $9mil per, Telvin Smith is around $12 mil...add in Foles in the $20 mil range...how much can they pay Ramsey? Jack?

Yep, it's why they basically let Fowler (former first round pick) walk to LA.

I agree with what someone said that when you have a bad offense like the Jags did especially with Fournette hurt The defense was just not motivated to play hard. The same thing happened with Seattle when Marshawn Lynch left and we couldn't run the ball to save our lives. There was a ton of frustration the defense had with the offense.

They have Ramsey for '19 on this rookie deal, + they exercised his 5th...so they have 2 yrs to work with...trade or pay, 3 with Fournette and some of that old DL money will be falling off.
