if Mantel had not been playing on one leg, he probably been on that list 5 - 6 times.

Great ball player for sure, but if he wasn't such a raging alchy he might have slayed some of the all time records and lived to tell about it.

Just sayin..........................

Acuna currently at 33HR and 28SBs, I think he is gonna do it.

Leads NL in Hits, SB,Runs Scored,Games played,AB

Hitting .300 with 33HR and 80RBIs(OUT OF THE LEADOFF SPOT) should be leading the MVP race IMO but the media has already crowned Yelich or Berlinger.

He should get more talk than he does, but Bellinger and Yelich have both had better seasons if you go by WAR. Acuna being forced into center field for a good part of the season has hurt his WAR a bit though. He's far better as a corner outfielder.

Acuna: .296/.377/.532, 131 OPS+
Yelich: .336/.428/.705, 185 OPS+ (Yelich leads in NL in all triple slash categories and could win the triple crown, though he probably won't lead the NL in RBIs)
Bellinger: .315/.416/.653, 178 OPS+

Acuna's having a great season, but Yelich and Bellinger are having offensive seasons on par with some of Trout's best seasons.

Acuna will more than likely be the 5th player ever to have a 40/40 year. Deserves consideration

At the same time, the MVP is for most valuable player.

The Dodgers are such a stacked team, they'd still be the best team in the NL if Bellinger went down, and the Brewers might not even make the playoffs, and if they don't, how valuable was Yelich?

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I'd say Acuna is more important to the Braves success than Bellinger is to the Dodgers.

Acuna has 4 RBIs less than Yelich, and that's hitting out of the leadoff spot.

Acuna leads the league in runs and stolen bases, and is one hit away from leading the league in hits.

I'd put Acuna third currently, but I think he has a stronger case than most would think.

That's true, but that doesn't really help the MVP cause. He was still in the games when they hit him cleanup the first 1/4 of the season.

And if the Brewers didn't have Yelich, they're probably not even in contention. This goes both ways.

I think the most valuable player is the best player period regardless of their team's standing. What his other 24 teammates do shouldn't diminish their accomplishments.

That's great and all, but it's still not much more than a trivia piece. Much like Miggy's triple crown.

It is to a point, and right now I’d have Acuna third. If you’re the best player in the league, but play on a last place team, I don’t think you should be in consideration.

The best season of Freddie Freeman’s career was wasted on a team that nearly lost 100 games. He would have had a strong argument if he played for a contender with the same numbers

Ernie Banks disagrees.

No doubt. That’s not at all what I’m saying

Isn't that exactly what you said? Sorry, I misunderstood you.
