Well, as is, there are a number of problems with that system as well;

- The massive difference in budget. Which means that teams moving up, rarely have the budget and talent to be competitive enough to stay up. Relegated teams usually suffer from a massive drop in revenue - resulting in massive problems for most of them, and budget cuts to the point of making them pretty much incompetetive if they move up.

This is a perfect reason why the NFL needs the cap.

This year's 'superbowl' will feature the Patriots from the NFL's NBA conference, and the Rams who got there on the backs of the officials.

Will not watch.

I'll let the advertisers know right away. This will probably swing them from paying for a commercial spot.

Well, the AFC East as a whole. The non-Pats teams in that division make the playoffs far less than one should expect, even if only afforded wild card opportunities, nor threatening the Pats in a serious manner in the division. It's really a perfect scenario for the Pats.

So who wants to volunteer to move NE into their division for the past couple decades, you know to even things up a little bit?

I'd be interested in a system more like English soccer has.

They have premier league, and then the relegation league.

Bad teams are down in the relegation league, and have to win their league to get promoted out. Bad teams in the Premier league get demoted.

16 in the top league, 16 in the bottom. Everyone plays everyone once to determine playoff seeding.

this is a bad idea on so many levels.

Seems like OP didn't live through the AFC sucking balls throughout the 80s & 90s.

The only section of the AFC where this holds definitely true is the AFC East - which has been a dumpster fire and basically provides the Patriots with a massive leg up on the way to HFA. The AFC South has been a disaster for quite some time as well.

Does it mean there needs to be a reallignment? No.

This ole' chestnut.

The Pats have a winning track record outside the division, equal to or greater than within the division.

Fully agree with you there... a no-cap situation is disastrous for any sports competition. Whether we are talking about soccer (domestic leagues of the international leagues like the Champions League), pro cycling, basketball, etc. etc.
