I didn't care much for our draft last season, but by mid season,I absolutley loved it......
I'm hoping it follows suit as last season......

We were all shocked by taking a te at 3........head shaking pick.

I'm guessing they think CW needs more weapons for whatever reason......
I think Roush is just as much of a RBs need another weapon as does Caleb, as he'll primarily be a blocker. If we're talking about another direct weapon for Caleb, see Zavion Thomas.

The reason why I won't just swallow the there was a run on TEs so they had to take the guy they wanted....the draft board just fell that way is because just a short while later they took a wide receiver that most people saw as a 3rd day receiver and not an early pick.

I can't see Poles draft board. I'm not in the room when these things are done. I refuse to speculate and pretend I know the facts when there's no possible chance I could.

What I will do is judge what I do know and what I can see. The Bears had needs elsewhere when they took a #3 tight end.

Who cares? That the mootest point I've ever seen.
But it speaks to how a draft falls, makes a teams decision different. Some people have issues understanding that concept.

It is called a 3 TE set (13 personnel)... The number 1 offense in the league last year ran the 13 personnel set THE MOST, of any other team... in fact, they drafted yet another TE this go around and now have 6 TE's on their roster.

Defenses have a hard time defending it, apparently. Do they put in a LB to defend all those blockers, or another DB to guard the pass.

In 20/20 hindsight, no real argument against taking a block-heavy TE for BJ to employ the 12 & 13 personnel sets he likes to use. And it's pretty much agreed that out of the Y formation TEs that were on the board at the time, Roush was considered the best. But I think the ongoing argument, at least until we see how the season pans out, will continue to be whether it was necessary to take one with our 69th pick when there were other areas of need and available players to fill those spots. Right now it's water under the bridge, I've already donned my homer hat and will root for every draft pick to succeed.

Never heard pf it......I just hope they did the right thing while ignoring our biggest glare.

Good listen

TLTR:
- 9 TEs drafted in the first 3 rounds and 22 TEs drafted in total in the draft. Hints to teams trying to employ more 13 personal like the Rams
- Pros: 13 personal attacks base defenses (4-3, 3-4) by having 1 more blocking type more than the defense have in run defenders
- Similar to how 11 personal attacked base defenses by adding 1 more WR but now today NFL defenses are built for 11 personal, so teams are now trying to go to 13 personal to go against this trend

The Bears were second in the league last year in running plays using 13 personnel, second only to the Rams. So as offensive alignments go, it must be working.

Like this kid's mindset and the attitude he brings to the table:

There's some nice highlight footage nested in the article. Thomas definitely knows how to bust a move. While he's still going to primarily be a ST player, knowing BJ and his creativity, look for him to be this season's Mr. Gadget.

And Johnson loves to run the ball... so...

In 20/20 hindsight, no real argument against taking a block-heavy TE for BJ to employ the 12 & 13 personnel sets he likes to use.

No true #2 CB on the roster you can trust.

No true #2 pass rusher on the roster that's proven to either produce consistently or stay healthy.

But yeah....other than that no argument to be made.
