Interesting.

So when Manning and Brady ran their divisions, they lost only once. Manning and Brady dominated five straight years at the same time and then 2008 happened. The Colts were a wild card and Brady got injured with the Pats missing the playoffs.

So how many years in a row did Allen and Mahomes both win their division? Five.

Moreover, in year four of winning their divisions, the Bills hosted the Chiefs in the playoffs. Similarly, the Colts hosted the Patriots. The year before, the Bills had a game cancelled against the Bengals. Had that not happen, it's inconclusive who wins that game. If the Bills won, they would have had the top seed. Manning had the top seed in year 3 as well.

Now, what happened after the off year? Manning had the number one seed and went to the SB. If the Bills and Chiefs repeat this, the Bills will have another shot hosting the Chiefs(Manning didn't host Brady in 09 but he didn't in 07 either). So far Josh Allen has failed to match Manning's track record. And if Allen even makes the SB, Manning lost to the Saints. But that's not always comparable. But an important note since 2018 the Chiefs are the only AFC SB winners.

Historically I dont think you can compare these four teams in a meaningful way. The Colts bottomed out when they drafted Peyton Manning and they had a full rebuild at the start of his career. Brady inherited a very, very talented Patriots defense from Drew Bledsoe. Mahomes inherited a very, very talented Chiefs offense from Alex Smith. Josh Allen has never had real top shelf post season success. So they had four very different arcs. Brady was a late round pick. Peyton was the #1 overall. Chiefs had to spend 2 1sts to get Mahomes. So Brady overachieving netted the Patriots a massive advantage over the other teams. Nobody is doing what Brady did unless some GM just makes every other GM look stupid.

The media are the ones forcing the comparison, and I agree it’s ridiculous, each of the 4 players have had very different career trajectories and stepped into different circumstances. But also, Mahomes is 4-0 against Allen in the playoffs and Allen has never made the Super Bowl so it’s not really a rivalry.

Historically I dont think you can compare
teams or players.

I remain sure the players of yesterday woulda trained like players do today if they played now, and today's players would train with the technologies the old school dudes had back then. I find all these discussions along with GOAT discussions tiresome.

They still can't measure heart nor desire.Thus...I still take Staubach over all others as my QB. I'm sure opinions vary.

Brady was known for being unathketic and staying within his system. Kind of like the highest Pokémon evolution of a system quarterback, but without any sort of negative connotations.

Manning was the most responsible for calling his own offense, not just calling his own plays, but the whole offense. More than any quarterback I have ever seen. He won a superbowl when he could barely even throw a football anymore.

Mahomes is famous for his atheltiscm innovation and playmaking ability when the play breaks down. Besides winning superbowls Brady is possibly the worst comparison you can possibly come up with for him.

Allen is just as much the antithesis of Manning as he can be without calling him dumb. Im sure he's a great leader, I'm sure he's smart and can call his own plays. But there are 100 QB's i would compare him to before I ever mentioned Manning.

If you wanted to make any comparison, maybe , MAYBE, you could compare the Colts/Patriots to the Bills/Chiefs. Even that is a bad comparison. But juat because they're those teams QBs does not make there any sort of correlation between the 2 sets of QBs.

Staubach was special. He wasn't a big man though, but the NFL was far less forgiving to QBs than as well. He also missed some prime years due to his naval service.

A general rule of thumb, too, is when looking back at older players I didnt see I think All Pro voting usually tells me who was the most respected. I guess I dont understand him not having a single 1st team All Pro Year and only one 2nd team All Pro. Led the league in passer rating four times and 2 SBs but Im guessing wasn't as flashy as a couple of other QBs.

Montana was special as well. Makes me wonder how good Greg Cook could've been. As Bill Walsh said he was the most talented QB he had.

That's serious praise from a coach who had Montana n Steve Young.

Yeah, that is odd. He wasn't flashy, but he could be dynamic as hell. The type of player you could never count out.

the uniforms that were just announced/shown recently will be worn for two games this season.(home vs. Chargers, Bears)
the uniforms they wore for the Detroit game last season will be worn for one game this season. (home vs. Dolphins)
Red jerseys will be worn for the home vs. Jets game.
looks like their "regular uniforms" will be used in all the other games.

The two greatest QB's of both eras, for my money, I throw out yards, TD's, all that good stuff, and go with what most folks talk about when it comes to retired QB's... Brady and Manning combined for 14 Super Bowl Appearances, 9 Super Bowl Titles, 8 MVP's and 6 Super Bowl MVP's. Mahomes and Allen have combined for 5 Super Bowl Appearances, 3 Super Bowl wins, 3 MVPs and 3 SB MVPs. The younger guys have time left, but a lot of work to do
