I am not sure that is even wise. Antonelli is dominating but Russell is hanging in there in Third. A good combo for the Mercs would be Antonelli and Hamilton but contracts get in the way of that even happening anytime soon!
The race tomorrow is gonna be pretty interesting. Russell isn’t a great starter so both Ferraris could leap him.
I’m still not sure how they say he actually lifted because I couldn’t hear much when I was watching the highlight of it. Hard to imagine he lifted much at all if he still went half a second faster than his previous lap.
And then he tops sprint qualifying, both times a 10th ahead of Antonelli. Leclerc is distant. Russell is even more distant. Verstappen starts third for the sprint and is a viable threat. Although 3/10 behind.
So Antonelli ends up, beating Luigi and the sprint. But then has nothing but bad luck in the feature race that ends up 16th after a five second penalty and a broken car.
But that ending was fubar. Max wipes out with six laps left and calls out a safety car.
So Leclerc who is well out in front pitted, and then Hamilton in P2 pitted. He was essentially caught between a rock and a hard place because Russell was behind him and if he didn’t pit, Russell would have. Much like Abu Dhabi 2021.
Hamilton pits, Russell doesn’t and Hamilton ends up in third place. And then what looked like a one lap sprint didn’t take hold because these idiots still don’t know how to handle a safety car at the end of the race.
