DT Chris Jones, Kansas City Chiefs

Jones is lined up to receiver a big payday as a free agent, but the Chiefs do not have a whole lot of financial flexibility and will likely want to offer Mahomes what could be a record-breaking extension in the near future. It is possible the Chiefs could employ the same strategy on Jones that they used on Dee Ford last year. Kansas City placed the franchise tag on Ford and traded him away to the 49ers for assets. By doing the same with Jones, they could give Mahomes whatever money he wants and gain the assets to surround him with young, inexpensive talent.

Man I would love to see Jones on our team.

Browns reportedly making Austin Hooper the highest paid tight end in football?

That's insane IMO.

There was never anything to it. From a report I've read the 49ers were Brady's preferred destination which makes alot of sense since the 49ers is the team he rooted for as a kid and his parents still live in San Mateo and could attend all of his games.
Chris Simms says otherwise.

Njoku then becomes available , or they roll a two TE set?

Yep was thinking the same. Njoku can still be a backup and play in two TE sets. Hooper is a great pickup but $11M...wow that is crazy

It didn't stop many talking heads on TV from pushing it.
It would have been a huge mistake

Stefanski loves 2 TE sets, Njoku will be retained unless they get some massive offer, which they won't. This was a great pickup for Cleveland as long as Hooper stays healthy.

Yeah they have a lot of cash, I put this on the other thread but..

So with that signing the Browns still have $53M, if I am correct. I think they plan on cutting Oliver Vernon and Chris Hubbard and maybe Sheldon Richardson. That would be another $22.7M and $13.6M if Sheldon got cut. They could have a potential cap space of close to $90M (after the Hooper signing). Hubbard needs to be replaced especially at that $7M, wouldn't be sad if either Vernon and/or Sheldon went as well...it's just about finding suitable replacements though.

I don't see them cutting Vernon. There are no reasonable options on the FA market at EDGE, and none in the draft that they'd consider at 10.

Why cut Richardson? He was really good last year and is only under contract for one more year.
