First of all I'd like to congratulate the Florida Panthers on their win last night. It was well deserved.
Before a sellout opening night crowd the New York Islanders played one of the worst games I've seen in a long time. They were absolutely dominated by the Florida Panthers in EVERY phase of the game. Their forwards backchecked to perfection. Jose Theodore only had to make 2 difficult saves all night. Getting traffic in front of the net was an afterthought for the Islanders. They obviously weren't paying attention to what their opponent was doing. After all Al Montoya got knocked down or run over THREE times.
When hockey is played properly it's a beautiful game. Tape to Tape passing is something you see most teams do with ease. The Red Wings have it down to a science. Only one team was able to perform this task last night in Long Island. The Islanders displayed some of the worst passing skills for 60 minutes I've ever seen.
Last season the Islanders were one of the hardest working teams in the league. That effort wasn't their last night. If they play this way the rest of the season they'll end up with the 2nd pick in the draft come June. (They'll LOSE the Lottery.)
