Yep, the stat keeping back then was a little iffy ....

And LT's years 5-10 were huge... we will see if Mack can keep it up ..

Also, is Mack as strong against the run as LT was? I remember LT being an all-around player but, again, they didn't keep as many stats back then

As good as he is, Mack is not truly comparable to LT. In this day and age when free agency has generally levelled the playing field, adding an awesome talent like Mack should make a much bigger impact on a defense vs that in Taylor's era. Khalil Mack on the Raiders? They were meh with and without him. LT? The Giants were 24th ranked on defense the year before Taylor, and 3rd in his rookie year. Yup...sure Harry Carson returning to play a full season greatly aided that, but that difference is by far, mostly due to Lawrence Taylor.

The stats tell you only so much. I don't think there has been any defensive player in the history of the NFL on Taylor's level.

Then he would routinely be getting 30 sacks a season. Without blow, LT is the greatest NFL player ever, with blow he is top 5.
