I didn't say they went to 9 games to make their schedules easier. The teams that scheduled 2 legit toughies OOC got easier schedules when that 2nd OOC toughie was replaced with a random SEC team. The SEC no doubt did it for the money.

You did though. You argued that teams cancelled their 2nd opponent because the committee didn't value SOS enough. Now you're arguing they did it for money. Which is honestly contradictory. If the OOC were better, why would the media give the SEC more money to cancel them? Hint: They wouldn't.

The 9th SEC game will make the schedules tougher and going to 9 conference games is the reason the 2nd OOC P4 opponent was cancelled. It is hilarious watching you twist yourself into logical pretzels to convince yourself that up is down.

and I stand by that. Note that that was a separate decision in most if not all cases and was done BEFORE the conference expanded the schedule.
Now you're arguing they did it for money.
Correct. IMO, the conference expanded the schedule for the money.
Which is honestly contradictory.
No it isn't.

Teams in the conference were not given more money by the media for playing 2nd OOC toughies. They thought they should do that to boost their chances to make the then smaller playoff. The situation changed. The playoff was expanded and simultaneously, the teams that did play tougher schedules were not rewarded when it came time to select teams for the playoff.
The 9th SEC game will make the schedules tougher
No. Utah and then miami, Notre Dame and other good OOC opponents in UF's case and other similar opponents for other major SEC programs were tougher than a random SEC opponent.
and going to 9 conference games is the reason the 2nd OOC P4 opponent was cancelled.
No its not. That was done later. The decision to cancel those games had already been made by the time the conference voted to expand the schedule. Also the expansion of the conference schedule was done for different reasons.

Its hilarious watching you be incapable of basic reading comprehension then digging in and arguing about it for days and days refusing to admit you were ever wrong no matter how obvious it is to everyon else.

They cancelled the games knowing they were going to a 9 game conference schedule. I promise you the conference didn't surprise the schools when they went to 9 conference games. If you think the cancellations had nothing to do with the schools going to a 9 game conference schedule, I'm not going to be able to help you. Unless you want to buy some beach front property in Arizona.

Here's what I will give you. I'm sure some SEC teams (the ones playing 2 P4 opponents) were probably frustrated with the ones that only played one. Moving to 9 conference games solved that discrepancy. If that's what you're arguing, I'll agree and say there's some merit there.

The decision had already been made and we all knew those games were going to be cancelled BEFORE the conference voted to go to 9 games. This was a topic of discussion on all the Gator boards.
I promise you the conference didn't surprise the schools when they went to 9 conference games.
It was known that some members were for it. It was not certain whether it would pass or not. In the event, it did pass.
If you think the cancellations had nothing to do with the schools going to a 9 game conference schedule, I'm not going to be able to help you. Unless you want to buy some beach front property in Arizona.
Given you don't know the inner workings of the UF program nearly as well as I do, given you were not on multiple Gator message boards discussing this well before it officially happened, you don't know what the order of things actually was nearly as well as I do.

That's part of it. Part of it was also that the smaller schools figured they would get more revenue with another conference game than they'd get from a 3rd cupcake which is all they were playing anyway. The Mississippi States and Vandy's etc saw no need to play a 2nd OOC toughie since they didn't figure they were really in the running for a playoff spot anyway.

Very few teams took advantage of scheduling a decent school with that schedule. Georgia always has Georgia Tech, but in many years, it’s not even a challenge for them. We had Notre Dame two years, but otherwise it was cupcake schedule.

At least the chance is there with 9 games for a team not to have an extra cupcake, but Id like to see a better OOC game, even if that means expanding the playoffs a bit.

Agreed. The 9th conference game makes the schedules tougher in most years. I think almost everyone knows that

It certainly does for some.....*cough* looking at YOU Mizzou, Mississippi State, Kentucky, South Carolina, etc.

For others not so much - it all depends on how the program was scheduling that 2nd OOC home and home. Some were just feasting on cupcakes at home. Others were consistently scheduling tough opponents.

Is it really beneficial to Texas? They’re one of THE major brands. They do great ratings as is. They don’t need it from a SOS perspective.

Seems like tech would benefit a lot more. As a neutral I’d love to see it
I agree and feel this will become more and more one sided requests in the future. The that sits in the BIG 10 or SEC doesn't need games like this anymore. The main goal is playoffs.

For most. Let's look at who the 2nd "toughie" was on each SEC schedule.

Alabama - FSU/Wisconsin - Average SEC team would have been better
Georgia - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
Ole Miss - No P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
Texas A&M - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
Oklahoma - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
Texas - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
Vanderbilt - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
Missouri - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
Tennessee - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
LSU - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
Kentucky - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
Auburn - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better
Mississippi State - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better.
South Carolina - Virginia Tech - Average SEC team would have been better
Arkansas - No 2nd P4 team - Average SEC team would have been better.

Florida - Miami FL - Yes, this is tougher than an average SEC team.

For 15/16 teams, they would have played a tougher schedule by going to 9 conference games. As a whole, the league will be playing tougher schedules moving forward.

Damn! I had not realized how much everybody else was slacking. UGA had played Clemson home and home a couple years ago and I thought I remembered LSU picking up good neutral site games but just about everybody else was really slacking.

All of the P4 teams & ND schedule cupcakes. This doesn't prove anything.

Clemson and ND in the past 8-9 years but that’s about it. And even then, we had plenty of other cupcake games.

I think Bama was the biggest offender with Citadel and Mercer for what seemed like every year.

Personally, SOS needs to be removed from the conversation. It's helped nothing except cause fans to suck on conferences teets and conferences to constantly complain about other conferences. NIL has created parity amongst the P4 and you never know who will be good from one year to the next (see Indiana). Sure, some P4 teams will never really be considered a big team to beat (see Kansas) but that doesn't mean they will always be a gimmie win like they use to be. The entire conversation of having more playoff games stem from the SOS conversation and it's completely dumb.

Remember a year or two before the COVID season when Citadel and Ala were tied at half? Ala eventually won by 30+, but that first half was the talk of the sport. The guy running the Citadel football Twitter account made sure of that, he taunted and trolled Ala/SEC leading up to and during the game.

Yup I remember that. I just can’t remember whether or not Alabama actually rolled with their starters, and for how long they kept them in the game.

And you wondered about this why?

That point was just argued for some reason.

My point, if you scrolled up, was that teams didn’t cancel those OOC series to create easier schedules. The schools that cancelled series did so because they were moving to 9 conference game.
