I'm really struggling to find a reason why such a stat matters even a little.

From what I understand, M.I.T. is the most rigid about admission on merit much more than some that allow marginal students in because of family legacy, influence peddling, etc. I've had ex students from them and several Ivy League schools. The ones that went to some of the Ivy League schools told me on more than one occasion there are some students that were "allowed in" that were similar to their average classmates in high school...or even worse.

I've always felt uncomfortable around Ivy League students. I guess it's because of my poor use of the
English language compounded by my Southern Accent.

I have a cousin that attended an Ivy League school. I remember when I asked her..."Watta Ivy League school
do y'all attend?"

She replied..."Yale!"

And I responded..."WATTA IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL DO Y'ALL ATTEND!"
