obviously its too early to talk team of the decade, so lets talk the century so far. whos been the best team since 2000?

Yanks have the most WS appearances, winning 2, losing 2.

Giants, Red Soxs, and Cards have won 2, Giants and Cards have lost 1.

Phillies went 1-1.

Giants are the only to win 2 in 3 years.

who do you guys say has been the best team?

I have the Giants in a landslide.....:heh:

Seriously though, when you take everything into account (i.e. - payrolls and overall success), I think you have to give the Cards and Giants the upper hand due to the higher degree of difficulty. I'm not taking anything away from the Yanks and Sox, but they have $200+ million payrolls.

Seriously, at this point, you have to look at St Louis and New York.

The Cards are 2-1 in the Series, 3-4 in the NLCS, have won the Central 6 times and the WC 3 times.

The Spanks are 2-2 in the Series, 4-3 in the ALCS, have won the East 10 times and the WC 4 times.

The Giants are 2-1 in the Series, 3-0 in the NLCS, have won the West 4 times and the WC once.

While I WANT to say it is the Giants, the facts do not support that conclusion. They are ABSOLUTELY in the conversation, though...

You're right. The Giants just haven't won their division enough times or advances to the NLCS enough times. I really want to see the Giants win the NL West again next year, not just make the playoffs. They've never won the division two years in a row (although prior to divisional play, the New York Giants did win the NL Pennant in consecutive years several times).

Correction...

Spanks have won the WC twice, not 4 times...

Great post. How did I miss it at the time?

Even cherry picking categories that favored the Giants still makes a weak case for the Giants. Although, taking down 10 major individual awards is quite impressive (even if it does only span 4 players: Bonds-5; Posey-2; Lincecum-2; Kent-1).

And, truth be told, Kent never should have won it in 2000.

Some 2000 stats (HR, RBI, BA/OBP/SLG, OPS+, WAR)

Kent: 33, 125, .334/.424/.596, 162, 6.9 ----outstanding season, and MVP worthy until you consider:

Bonds: 49, 106, .306/.440/.688, 188, 7.5

If Bonds isn't in the league, then Kent had a year for the ages. However, not only WAS Bonds in the league, he was either hitting in FRONT of JK (hence the RBI opps) or he was hitting behind Kent (hence the enhance BA). AND he slugged .688!! As amazing as Kent's season was, Barry (per OPS+) was 27% BETTER. Think about that.

Kent only won the MVP that year b/c there was a colorable argument to be made for him and the media fucking HATED Bonds. Simlarly, Bonds should have won the MVP in 1991 (Pendleton). As it is, he won the thing 7 times and was jobbed twice.

Most...amazing...player....EVER.

Respect.
