Eifert IR
Kroft Injured
Shreck IR

UZOMAH out of practice due to shoulder injury.

So we have what now?

Jordan Franks (undrafted)
Matt Lengel (undrafted)
Andrew Vollert (undrafted Weber State) - just added to practice squad

It is so bad, they are discussing Sam Hubbard playing some TE for them.

WTF is going on with our TE's? Are they all made of glass?

I mean, you already know the answer with Eifert, right? Kroft has been pretty durable, so I'm guessing this is more of a fluke.

Most of our fans assume Auden Tate could be a tight end.... He had Hubbard can share the load.

You get that bad talk about Tate out your mouth, son!

The Legend of Tate begins this weekend, he'll play WR, TE, and hell, he'll step in at LB and cover the other teams TE, too!

CHAMPIONSHIP!

there's got to be someone on the roster who played Tight End a bit on their high school, junior, or little league team.

julius thomas should have never left denver, he could potentially sign here, but I doubt we'll actually try to sign a capable free agent, we'll just find some college free agent who will work for the league minimum and then fade into obscurity.

At this point, wouldn't Thomas take league minimum just to rebuild his resume?

Highly Doubtful.

Usually when a veteran like that takes a low level deal it's because, well, they suck now and it's all they can get.

For all the undeserved hype Auden Tate gets from this fanbase, he better be the second coming of Randy Moss.

To those of us who aren’t retarded, he’s likely the next Armon Binns.

In all seriousness, I think where he can be useful is in the redzone. His height and catch radius alone makes him a matchup issue. Outside of that, who really knows.

With Eifert lost (again), you could utilize his skill set for those specific matchups. I'm sure Marvin has 100 excuses why he wouldn't activate/use Tate for specifically that role, but it's too obvious for the rest of us. It's either him or Cody Core being active, and all Core does is drop passes...might as well see what Tate can do, even if it is in a limited role/specialize role.

The stated reason is that Tate can't play special teams. I have a hard time understanding how guys that are good athletes and have played football all of their lives cannot participate on kick coverage teams. It seems the only good reason for this is that they might be a giant pussy.

That said, as much as Core sucks as a receiver, I'm not comfortable making our ST any worse than they were at the beginning of the year, just so we have a guy that MIGHT help as a 4th option.

A competent NFL coach would likely realize that and take advantage.

However, Marvin doesn’t believe in matchups. Size, speed personnel advantages aren’t a real thing. It’s also not his job to make adjustments, nor his responsibility to prepare players to perform.

An investigation is underway to determine what exactly Marvin’s job responsibilities entail.

I get that to a point. But Cody Core is not going to the pro-bowl on special teams. He also can't catch a pass. I'm willing to be that any potential drop in ST coverage would be surpassed by the advantage Tate would bring on offense with his matchup.

Who knows, maybe he'll suck worse than Core, but the thing is, much like Westerman, we'll never know because these guys never get a chance to show what they can do on game-day.

What I do not understand is how there isn't a defensive player not capable of filling the role, since they are the ones used to hitting guys. We have athletic LB's and DB's, plus, I am not opposed to Hubbard playing ST with his speed. He may not be the one getting first crack at a ball carrier, but he can occupy bodies, and he can help seal off an edge. There is no reason Tate should have to play ST just because Marvin has decided that the last active WR needs to be a ST maven.

I have no idea how good Tate will be. He may be nothing more than many of our other swing and whiff WR's we have drafted over the years. However, I am willing to at least give him a shot to prove it. Ross will be given countless opportunities to drop balls and fumble, or give up on passes so they get INT.

Dude is 6'5", has a vertical of 31" and a reach of probably close to 80" and big ass hands I thought.

Now if you have a basketball jumpoff at midcourt in the back of the end zone, how the hell is a 5'10" CB supposed to keep him from catching that at the apex?

Granted, he is raw, doesn't have a lot of speed, but his big thing was catching the ball and with his size, jumping ability and hands, that screams a possession specialist that can out position against smaller players inside the 30 yard line.

I am just saying. Potential is there, but we need to see if he has anything or if we should just cut him later on so we can draft another 7th round WR who is a ST specialist only.

Payton on Dez playing Sunday:

"I'll be open minded about it. Packages-wise, there are simple things we can do..."

Damn, what must it be like to have a coach who realizes that, even in small doses, you can create special packages to get the mismatches you might need.

I'm sure they will be worried their ST's will suffer if he is active on Sunday, especially after he abuses McRae in the Redzone for a TD.

I think the translation here is..... "Yes, I realize that Dez hasn't played all year and he doesn't know the offense, but how hard is it to run right by Dre?"

Not very hard. Everyone else has run by him this year.

I anticipate losing badly this week, so I hope they lock Dre up on Thomas so I can have a hell of a fantasy week.

Pretty sure one of us, after an all night booze cruise, could get Dre to bite on an out and up.

Apparently Dez is overweight.... A guy that has already lost a step and not seriously desired by any of the teams in the offseason is now carrying some extra weight. Maybe we should HOPE he plays this weekend.

I guess watching Dez this weekend might give us all a chance to reflect on the 2010 draft where we passed on Dez to draft Gresham.
