Martin wont make the team most likely. Tapp would be a backup yes.

Yep- 4th DT and 4th DE, basically.

Martin started a fair amount of games (27) in his first three years in San Diego before getting hurt last year in Miami. He's a decent athlete and should suffice as a rotational guy to chew up a handful of snaps a game. Not a lock to make the roster if we draft a younger kid, but for what it's worth we were after him last offseason before the Dolphins offered him a bigger role.

Tapp will be the 4th DE if he makes the team. He's an under-sized "pass rushing specialist" who doesn't get all that many sacks. He did have his best years with Washburn, though, so maybe he adds some value as a situational pass rusher. I don't see it though. Hopefully we draft another DE and Tapp becomes a late-summer cut when we have to get down to 53.

Love these signings -- the defense is really starting to shape up. Daryl Tapp should step right in and fill the role left by Willie Young. He hasn't played much in recent years, so he should have fresh legs and the Lions should be able to develop him and turn him into a monster at DE.

Vaughn Martin is another quality player added to the defense. Another guy who hasn't played much recently, so he should have fresh legs too and give the Lions some quality snaps at DT.

Here I thought the Lions were going to sign players off the scrap heap to plug in and play after spending their salary cap space on a WR. I was dead wrong.

Awww- looks like somebody got his whittle feelers hurt when the Lions didn't sign all of the defensive stud free agents he wanted for the huge contracts they all ended up getting.

It cracks me up when grown men act this immature when things don't go their way...

What are you talking about? I LOVE these signings. Detroit is a much better team now than they were at the start of the day. The more players they sign on defense, the more offensive weapons we can draft.

You will be wrong, the lions will be drafting defense often and early.

:agree: I still think there is a 10-15% chance they will draft Evans, however. But paying 5-6 million to Tate to be a slot receiver makes no sense. Wonder if they are going to try and trade up for Mack or Clowney. With all the talk from coach Caldwell about a "Win-now" attitude in the locker room.
