With a salary of $3 million, Ales Kotalik is the favourite whipping boy of Flames fans, but Sutter praised the New York Ranger castoff for his play on a line with Daymond Langkow and Christopher Higgins.

“Higgins, Kotalik and Langkow were probably our best forwards — after we got Higgins and Kotalik — for a long stretch,” Sutter said. “I like our right-wing position. It’s as good as anyone in the NHL.

“When you look at it as a group with Jarome Iginla, David Moss, Kotalik and Bourque — for the most part, they’re pretty good.”

dash is about a year and a half overdue becoming a canucks fan.
His family has already turned on him. It's only a matter of time.... well, Sutter doesn't help, either.

To be fair, Sutter did turn around a floundering team upon his arrival and his restored the pride to the Flames (as well as the fans to the Saddledome). His biggest mistake has been not adopting to the way the game has changed post-lockout (i.e. the team is not fast enough either up front or on the back-end).

His biggest mistake has been taking overpaid bums and think that they would magically turn into allstars.
(Kotalik, Jokinen, Toskala come to mind)

to be fair I think I wouldnt put Toskala in this. Toskala actually performed decent for Calgary in his short stint and wasnt expected to be anything more than some time off for Kipper

yeah, that's true.
but a $4m salary to backup a guy that plays 76 games certainly applies as an overpayment
(yes, I know they only paid it for the last part of the season)

The Flames biggest problem up front is the lack of a true playmaking centre - A lot of posters on Calgarypuck are creaming themselves over Jason Spezza, but I'm just not sure if Calgary have anything that Ottawa wants in return (aside from 43's mancrush on Daymond Langkow)

Iggy would love to have Hank Sedin feeding him sweet passes for the patented one-timer...
