The deadline has passed (five weeks ago) and Ice Edge hasn't supplied all the documents that Glendale requested to prove that their financing is in place...

At the deadline, Glendale said Ice Edge had submitted "some of the required financial information." City officials declined public records requests for more detail.

But on Monday, city spokeswoman Julie Frisoni revealed that Ice Edge has failed to submit some of the required documents, five weeks past the deadline. She would not elaborate on the missing files.

Though the deadline for exclusivity is gone, Frisoni said, the city can still negotiate with Ice Edge.

But the clock is ticking. The tentative agreement between Glendale and Ice Edge aimed to conclude negotiations Aug. 6.

"We have a very tight timeline to make the deal," Frisoni said.

This is still blowing up right in the NHL's face. I love it. I wonder how many other "viable" options they'll explore before Balsillie is the only one left.

what is so WRONG with letting balsillie buy the team?? i mean, it's not 100% that he'd move them, right? i mean, interest IS picking up in the desert, who's to say he wouldn't give 'em a few years there? obviously i think that's his greatest desire, but can't the NHL stop that? i mean, if buttman really wants that team to find success it needs AN OWNER first and foremost.

Honestly moving to Winnipeg would probably destory the light at the end of the tunnel for the Yotes. They made the playoffs last year. They played 7 games against the Wings. They didnt do awful. Not for the Coyotes anyway.

I dont think Winnipeg could support an NHL franchise IMO...not again.

Reinsdorf back in the picture?!? Still looking for that sweetheart deal from the league/Glendale, I guess. Also, I find it hard to believe that three different groups are looking to purchase the Coyotes.

It appears the Phoenix Coyotes ownership situation is getting murky again.

While Ice Edge Holdings is still talking with the City of Glendale about the long-term lease of Jobing.com Arena, a source close to the negotiations confirmed to Sportsnet's John Shannon that the City is also talking with three other groups about the arena and team.

One of those groups is said to include Jerry Reinsdorf, who has been sitting on the sidelines for the past few months while Ice Edge has tried to negotiate a lease and also prove it has the financing in place to own the NHL team.

While the City of Glendale would not comment on these newest developments, a City representative did say they stood by comments made last week that Ice Edge was having difficulty proving they had enough financial backing to purchase the club.

On a related topic, another source close to the team said that only 1,800 season tickets have been sold for the 2010-11 season. A disappointing number considering the team's on-ice performance last season.

It should also be noted that the City has agreed to pay the team's losses for the upcoming season, with a cap of $25 million, until a new owner is found.

It might have been a down year for the Wings, but if the Yotes win that series, i would say that season ticket sales would be considerably more. Kinda hurt them more than it helped the Wings, imo.

Until the ownership situation is stabilized, I can't fault people for not shelling out for season tickets for the Coyotes. Can we just bid adieu to the Ice Edge clowns though, they never had the money in the first place and they can't get the financing based on current economic conditions. Seriously, what bank wants to back a franchise that has lost 300+ million dollars over the last 10 years...

i think they should just let balsille buy the team.. he's obviously going to be a good owner and wants to own a team, and own a team that is succuessful.. if he wants to move the team, so be it, the NHL needs more owners that are willing to go to the lengths he's willing to go to..

i thought he wanted a team in hamilton though, not phoenix

Is there an option of just not having a team anymore? I haven't really followed this too much. (i know i know, "Wow Auto, we haven't noticed!")

No offense people but I am going to vomit if I see Balsille's name to many more times. He is NOT the white knight that some people think he is. I have a cuz in Toronto that is well in touch with the business world (he is also a close friend of Ken Dryden) and he was telling me Ballsy would run his mother over to make a buck and sell her body organs for even more money.

Just an FYI

His personal life doesn't matter much to me. I just want to see this situation dealt with. I know Buffalo fans aren't happy that the Coyotes could have/still might end up in Hamilton. But from my point of view, he has the money and is an avid hockey fan which good for an owner. If the NHL had handled this right the situation would have been resolved with the Coyotes comfortably in Hamilton to start this season. Instead the league continues to let the Coyotes bleed money in the desert while they try over and over to sell the team to unviable options and when each deal falls through, they keep going back to previous options that already didn't work. It's ridiculous that the NHL is losing so much money on this when the solution is right there.
