There are 32 NFL teams. There are 8 Super Bowl winning QBs that are still active and 6 of the 8 are in the playoffs including all 4 teams with a bye. Yes, some of them have had great defenses and no, they aren't necessarily all franchise QBs, but a franchise QB is Still the most important thing in the NFL...

Drat. I was under the belief that a killer D could stuff a run game and frustrate the QB enough to ensure a victory in most cases.
Back to the drawing board...

The Rams didn't even make the playoffs.

That is because most teams target that as the winning formula. Strong D and a solid running game works as well but is the road less traveled. The NFL, fans and press are QB crazy so that contributes also to the trend. So I'm just saying that it doesn't need to be that way it's just the way that is most popular. It may be shifting a little but probably won't continue especially if the NFL targets and restricts defenses as they are now.

Solid QB play is vital for any NFL team... Obviously good defense is vital also... But if your QB sucks your most likely not making the playoffs... Seattle was 7-9 before Wilson took over... It was night and day once he got in there...

There are always times though when your QB needs to make smart decisions ... If you have a sub par QB at some point it's gonna rear it's ugly head and destroy your teams chances.... Wilson had to make some big plays in big moments last year in Seattle's playoff run or the Niners would a won the NFC title game... We were down 10 early and down 7 late and it was clutch play's from Wilson that got us back in that game...It's not about the numbers sometimes, it's about the moment...

Turn overs, time of possession=Win every time and that will not matter how good a QB is,just ask Marino.

If your team just sucks in other areas of course it's gonna hurt your chances... But if you have a good team and things are in place, and your QB is sub par it can ruin everything... Playoffs are about the moment not the stats... We all know turnover and time of possession can impact a game... time of possession can be your QB making big play's when it counts, along with a good running game etc ...

Teams have won it all with quarterbacks who might not be on your fantasy team. It would really ruin the game if they keep making it tougher to play defense and give even more breaks to offensive players. I don't want to see high scoring games cause the defense has their hands tied. And it shows with the offensive records being matched or broken as the rules get more and more out of whack.

If you are a stat junky, it is already a mess as the teams and players of yesteryear played a very different game. Yes you need a quarterback. But for now, a good defense and running game is still very important. Lets not ruin it.

Exactly but look at Flacco for instance i would not call him a top tier QB,it takes all the parts of course,I believe more teams will look for that sweet spot rather than some super star QB for success in the future or even now,the Seahawks were the youngest SB champs ever and as we see many teams are going for youth.

But those are outputs, not inputs.

It's close to saying the team with the most points will win.

if you throw the ball MORE like we saw with Denver in the SB you are giving up the clock,if you have a run game or a balanced attack on offense you control the clock and when it comes to the playoffs that is GOLD.

Tossing the ball a ton creates very fast 4th downs and possible turnovers, then if say a run first team gets it they will just keep grinding away til they good good field position and then its back to the toss game, better hope the other team does not have a secondary and no fouls are called.

Sure, but it's not make it, take it football. When you score you give the ball back to the other team. If you score a lot, you give the ball back to the other team a lot as well.... but scoring a lot is still good, right? In the game against the Eagles, we were close to an NFL record for time of possession. Each team still possessed the ball 13 times. It didn't matter that we held it longer. It mattered that we did more with it when we had it. Time of possession is an output, not an input.

i think you need solid qb play and the vguy has to be a threat to make some plays

flacco can but he wont carry a team

a guy like wilson probably wont carry a team but he is smart and makes great decisions

he is still growing and is heading for elite though

Back to the drawing board...

Agreed...a dominating DEF is the foundation for a championship team....historically, those type of teams are difficult to hold together.

SEA has a unique situation in that they can couple a QB capable of making big plays along with the DEF and running game...we'll have to see how long they can sustain it now.
