He shouldn't be unemployed for long.

USC should consider hiring him, Andy Enfield hasn't done much with the Trojans.

They were negotiating a contract extension just yesterday, but apparently their price tags were too far apart. I'm surprised that with all the money in NYC they couldn't make it happen. It makes it look like St. Johns isn't committed to winning, fair or not.

I hope his cancer wasn't a reason. He did a helluva job just getting them back to the tournament.

Yeah, I like Lavin a lot. If he wants to coach I hope he finds another gig, but I certainly wouldn't be disappointed to see him back on ESPN again.

I wouldn't be upset to see him at SU. Too bad this is happening a couple years too soon.

Just because Boeheim said he's stayin, doesn't mean they can't still fire him.

(I know... but just sayin)

I like Lavin too but he bugs the crap out of me when he calls timeouts when his own team is on run. kills their momentum regularly.

yeah he did.

I thought I heard yesterday or so, that he was going sign a new contract and stay...must be mistaken, or was a bad report.

it puzzles me why St Johns is still talked about as though they are a big time program and this is a great job. They aren't and the job isn't. What no one talks about is how Louie was getting players in the old days. #1 the Big East was the place to be from day 1. Also St Johns had no student housing so Louie could hand out a housing allowance to his players every month and still be within the rules. He was getting top shelf NYC talent who could live at home while bringing in literally hundreds of $$ a month. The money days are over and so are the Big East glory days. St Johns is a mid major program at best and no one is out there fighting to get this job. They would be best off to accept they aren't going to final 4's anymore and get realistic about who they are. I'm no Lavin fan but I doubt anyone could win much more than he did.

They should have kept Lavin. SJU took one step forward getting Lavin. Chirs Mullin's is two steps backwards.

yeah I agree with this. I think St Johns believes they're bringing back the glory days just by hiring Mullin when it obviously isn't that easy. Mullin has never coached in his life and hasn't been a fixture in NYC in decades. I would be surprised if he has any success at all.

I like the Mullin hire.

I don't think it will produce wins, but it will bring back some buzz to the Johnnies.

They need that. Interest in the program has been fading for some time now.
