From Jaime Baker:

2.If there was a Stanley Cup hangover then it didn’t last long. Boston and Vancouver combined for an 8-12-1 record in the month of October. Since then the top two teams from last season are a combined 38-9-2 (Boston 20-2-1).

Looks like validation of last years finalists.

Luongo hasn't had a decent October in years. Not even close to a mediocre one. If I was Coach A.V. I wouldn't even put Luongo in net until November rolls around.

I've seen his October numbers posted over the last couple years. Why do you think that is? Do you think it's a mental issue? Physical conditioning issue? Does it just take awhile to get his mechanics and lanky body on the same page?

That's the 5.33m/per question. Hehe.
Perhaps a bit of a combo of all the above, and, it doesn't help when Gillis keeps changing goalie coaches on him. Think he's gone through three in Vancouver already. I think he's thinking too much out there instead of just reading and reacting, like he did in his Florida days, getting Vezina nominations on a non-playoff team. Probably stops thinking too much after a few weeks of play has transpired.

It probably is a little bit of everything. Having a good/consistent goalie coach definitely wouldn't hurt him though. Maybe he'll get better with age. I remember Potvin (when with the Leafs) seemed to play better when he got a ton of shots (30+) against him in his younger years. His best game as an Islander was when he stopped 55 of 57 shots against the Devils for a win. He'd then lose the next game giving up 4 goals on 25 shots. He always seemed to struggle in games when there were 18 - 25 shots against. Then when he got older (and worse, lol), he seemed to thrive on low shot total games when he was with the Kings. His focus seemed to improve as his skill was diminishing. I think Felix had some mental focus issues as well, because he always seemed to play better in the playoffs than he did in the regular season.

The best goaltending duel I ever saw was the playoff series between the Blues (CuJo) and the Leafs (Felix) in the 1993 playoffs. Highway robbery almost every shift - neither team had even looked at adopting the NJD style of play yet, it was WIDE open pond hockey and only the goalies kept the scores below double digits.

That series was fucking awesome. That was literally what got me into hockey. I remember going out and asking my parents to buy me those blue Koho pads with the white flames on the bottom, lol. Been hooked on the sport ever since.

(biased of course) It sure would have been awesome to watch a Leafs-Canadiens Stanley Cup with Roy vs. Potvin.

Dallas - Vancouver 7 gamer a few years ago wasn't bad either.
Turco had three shutouts, and still lost the series.
so many overtimes, I think they ended up playing about 10 games worth of hockey.

after a 4OT game to start things off (72 saves for Lou), no team scored more that 2 goals in a game until the Nucks got a couple of empty-netters to close out game 7. also, i was at game 7, so that was pretty sweet :)

Awesome goaltending duel, but, it was two defensive teams going at it, and playing it safe 5-on-5 and hoped to capitalize on a PP.

There were many great saves, but not even close to practically every shift like that Blues/Leafs series of '93

Wine hangover is worse... by a country mile...especially from Maddog 20/20...

I don't think any particular type of alcohol is worse than another. Vodka, rum, tequila, whiskey, etc... all have painful chapters in my book of hangover stories.

The sugar base of Rum makes it a vehicle for a very powerful hangover. (just like drinking mixed drinks blended with juices or soft drinks)
All things equal, vodka is the best bet. With soda water. Or any base liquor straight up. 'Except rum. Rum will kill you. Yet I love it so.
