Pretty good writeup. I'm surprised Presley's platoon split was so dramatic.

Correia over Karstens in the starting rotation bothers me, but an otherwise good writeup.

I'm not sure who they would platoon with Presley if that split holds up, since their 4th OF is also a lefty...

The real 4th of is a righty. He looks like he'll be up in june or july. Actually the of could be really strong. All five are good defenders, mcc everyday in cf and an even split of rightys and leftys in the corners. Mclouth can be insulated a lot if he takes turns with tabata. Basically mclouth only needs to play against the weaker rh starters. He should be able to succeed in that role. Presley still spooks me a bit but if he can continue hitting rightys then marte can be incorporated slowly as his rh complement.

Illinest there is zero chance, possibly even less, that Marte comes up to platoon as a fifth OF. That is so absurd that I can't believe you actually though it. Marte comes up as a starter and that is it. If he isn't starting, he won't be up.
As for the article, I don't agree that our rotation is full of number five types. I would say more like a number two type and a bunch of 3/4 types. Much better than they give credit for. Presley's splits last year were also understandable, it was his first pass through the league and he got the pleasure of hitting against some tough lefties, no big concern, I think he'll be fine.
I can't believe I am about to say this, but MLB Trade Rumors says that Baltimore is shopping Mark Reynolds. They don't want to eat much of his contract so the return should be low. He is an upgrade at two positions for us, as bad as that is, so why not talk to them and see if we can work something out.

I agree wholeheartedly on Reynolds. That's a lot of power to add, and in a platoon, he might be even more effective.

"there is zero chance, possibly even less" - ridiculous hyperbole. Doesn't even make sense.
"platoon as a fifth" - not even close to what I said. Strawman. It wasn't intended as commentary or prediction anyways.
" so absurd that I can't believe you actually though it" - hyperbole and needling

Please refrain from using this sort of argumentative crap in the future. Those were all fallacious and inflammatory. We don't need that here.

Where were you guys last year when I was arguing for Reynolds?
And Hardy too by the way. The Orioles got both of my reclamation projects. They both did well in 2011.

I was all over that bandwagon last year for Hardy and Reynolds with you. Just imagine those two last year in the lineup when they needed the offense?

As for the Presley discussion I think that is the main reason Navarro is playing some OF this ST. They seem to love him and if he keeps this up I will be happy with him on the bench also.

they manage to stay out of the basement or better yet make the playoffs,I'll start watching again

The reason I was not in on Reynolds last year is because I thought Pedro would probably match him stat for stat. Now that I firmly believe Pedro will never hit his weight over the course of a season as a Pirate, I would be willing to add Reynolds. Still don't like him much, but if he is cheap he is an upgrade. Maybe Mercer can be ready by midseason next year also making him apossible trade bait towards next years deadline.
As for Hardy, I think everyone was hitched up to that wagon, I don't think I heard anyone on any board not wanting to trade for him.

Easy solution, don't come to a Pirates board until such time as you see fit.

I'm not a much of a fan of Reynolds, don't like the low average no matter how many HR's he hits, and he might be one of the few guys in the league who is a worse defensive third basemen than Alvarez.

Let me add on to my statement. Reynolds would have been good last year. With what they brought in this year he is not needed.

I wouldn't want Reynolds on 3B. I'd want him platooning with Jones at 1B.

McGehee is [unfortunately] our best defensive solution at third.

If Pedro at least starts hitting righties :-)pray:), they could platoon him and McGehee at third.

But that doesn't look likely right now, and I agree he should start he season in AAA.

Either way, the lineup is devoid of power, and that's pretty much all Reynolds brings.
