Series Thread: Sox vs Pittsburgh

A little early for this thread, being we don't face them until Tuesday in a short two game series, but what the heck. Might as well get er goin'. The Pirates have a gawd awful record, but they've been playing decent ball of late, winning 6 of their last 10. So they can't be taken lightly. Still damn it, we better take both of these games. Here are the matchups:

Giolito vs Wilson
Rodon vs Keller

Wilson's young, yet has some experience as a starter, including racking up a dub in a playoff game last year. He came over to the Pirates from the Braves in a deal at the trade deadline. Don't know much about him, but my guess is he doesn't have overpowering stuff, being his SO/IP ratio is 7.2. Of course this doesn't mean the kid can't pitch.

Keller is strictly a reliever, so the Pirates are obviously going with an opener for the 2nd game.

Playing teams with nothing to lose - is also a hazard for contenders.

Time to pile up some wins and get things in shape for the Playoffs.

Just a quick FYI, after yesterday's 11 SO performance, Dylan is now tied for 4th on the MLB K list. Yes, that's 4th. Only Zack Wheeler, Gerrit Cole, and Robbie Ray have more.

And TA will miss both games vs Pittsburgh.

It's only 1 start for Lynn. I'm actually fine if we do this with all of the guys in our rotation to wind down the regular season. Everyone has something bothering them at this point. Like I had said in a prior thread - I would rather win 92-93 games and be healthy. As opposed to risking guys getting worn down to win 96-97.

We should still beat Pittsburgh with Giolito and Rodon slated to pitch.

I think in Lynn's case, he just needed a beer break. Reports say a beer truck dropped off a dozen kegs at his residence about an hour after he was placed on the IL. Big boy was just a lil thirsty. Needs to refill the tank before a lengthy playoff run.

Tweaked his hammy fielding a swinging bunt. He tried to stay in but was clearly bothered by it.
