Ketel Marte. Yeah, that's right: Ketel Marte. Let me repeat as you may have thought I made a typo: K E T E L M A R T E

He weighs 165 fucking pounds. I went over 165 in my sophomore year in high school.

DiPoto is not what you would call a brain surgeon but can we really blame him for this one? Did anyone, in the entire Milky Way Galaxy, see this coming?

No I can't blame him for the is one. It's not the same as dumping Chris Taylor or some random guy that I dont care to look up.
But even if that trade was just for Haniger I think its a fine trade and they did get two solid years of Segura out of it as well. I think Haniger really should have been dealt last offseason but still couldnt predict his year to turn out like this.

Regardless it gets really fucking old to see literally 80-90% of former Mariners leave and just do massively better at their next stop. You would think law of averages or something would stop this at some point but it never ends

How much is that sustainable? Not sure but I liked the deal at the time and still do... Problem with the Mariners, is they don't know how to correctly groom a player through our farm system... Who was the last great player they groomed? Felix, Arod? How many years ago was that?

I don't think any of us saw this coming. Wonder what neat substance he came across.

Considering he only hit 8 HRs in his first 249 major league games, this is a strange turn of events. Shit in the minor leagues with Seattle he had 10 total HRs in 444 games.

I think Marte got the HR fever back in 2016 when he watched his DR brothers, Cano and Cruz, combine for 82 homeruns.
Maybe Marte's HR output should not be surprising after all. Consider: last year, 38.5% of his hits went for extra bases. This year he is only up 5% to 43.5%. But the doubles and triples he hit last year are going over the wall this year.

Makes sense, but I always figured his doubles and triples were more a result of him hitting liners into the gap and making something happen with his legs. Still quite a strange turn of events for him.

He's 25... and trending upward, so it may be sustainable if you look at his productivity on a year by year case. Regardless, I'm with you, I still like the trade granted Haniger stay healthy.

Eh, can’t blame Jerry on this one. But maybe as we learned along with Taylor that if some other GM is asking Jerry for a certain guy then Jerry should say anyone but him. Just really can’t blame Jerry for trading for two AS’s. I still think a good GM could’ve gotten Segura and Haniger for just Walker but it is what it is.

Hindsight is always a bitch, but Marte was relatively expendable after trading for Segura - who looked like the long-term SS - and having Cano getting paid $24m a year until the end of time.

When the trade was made I don't think anyone anticipated that Marte would transform into more than just a defensive-first SS with limited offensive abilities, or that Cano/Segura would both be traded prior to the 2019 season.

Really just goes to show how much things can change in a short period of time.

If some of us could see into the future, we'd be super rich winning lotteries. Predicting performance of player's abilities and performance we could put together a winning World Series team every year. :pound:

I’m sure if anyone of us were given the GM job we could’ve at least made the playoffs once in 18 years.

I would still wait on this one I remember when everyone was crying that we traded away brad miller and he hit 30 homers with the rays and scouts have said that he is playing above his grade and now he is nowhere to be heard from.

I've already responded to this thread, but it definitely doesn't look like he is 165 anymore.

Dominican milk shakes. Recipe originally created by Manny Rameriz. But I ain't complaining. We benefitted for four years when Nellie was here.

Unfortunately Adrian Beltre decided to abstain from the Dominican milk shakes while he was with the Mariners.

I would really love to know what Ketel Marte's drug dea- I mean what workout routine his trainer has him on.
